Rebecca backed away step by step, her nerves stretched to the breaking point, her body trembling uncontrollably.
Suddenly, someone covered her mouth from behind.
"Mmph! Mmph!"
A familiar male voice whispered in her ear,
"Shh, Rebecca, it's me! Jump out the window. Now!"
Rebecca twisted her head in panic and finally saw who it was. It was Duncan.
Her eyes fluttered rapidly. Duncan released his hand.
"You... Why are you here?"
"No time. I'll explain later. Go! Jump!"
As he spoke, he pushed the window open.
"Are you insane? This is the seventh floor! I'll die if I jump!"
Duncan grabbed her and shoved her toward the window.
Rebecca screamed, "Ah! No! No! You're crazy, Duncan! I don't want to die!"
Duncan's expression turned cold as he growled under his breath, "If you don't want to die, then jump now! You came here looking for death, didn't you? Jump!"
Before she could argue, he forcefully pushed her out the window, and then jumped after her.
They dropped straight onto a truck below, where a safety cushion had already been set up.
Before Rebecca could even process what had happened, Duncan dragged her into a car and sped away from the scene.
Inside the car, Rebecca was still shaken, her voice trembling. "W-what... what just happened? You..."
Duncan brushed dust off his clothes. His face was pale, and his tone turned icy.
"Rebecca, are you trying to get yourself killed? What were you doing there?"
Rebecca immediately realized—had he been following her all along?
In an instant, she switched to a fragile, tearful expression. Clutching his arm, she sobbed, "Duncan, no... I... I just wanted to quietly check on Ms. Hale.
"I wanted to confirm if it was really her. I know how worried you are about her safety.
"I was afraid you might act recklessly, so I... I went ahead to take a look myself..."
Her voice broke as tears filled her eyes.
"If something were to happen... it should be me, not you...
"Duncan, I... I couldn't bear to see anything happen to you..."
Duncan frowned. His anger faded slightly, his tone softening.
"Are you stupid? That was basically suicide! Do you have any idea how many people they had waiting at the hospital?
