After seeing that video, Duncan had completely lost control.
In the heat of the moment, he hadn't listened to a single word of Rebecca's explanation.
But now that he had calmed down and thought it through, he realized some of her words made sense.
That Monica in the video—her behavior really didn't match the Monica he used to know.
And besides, what reason would Rebecca have to harm Monica? The only person she truly hated was Agnes.
Maybe Rebecca was right. Maybe all of this was just another one of Agnes's schemes.
A flicker of guilt rose in Duncan's chest.
Why had he been so impulsive? Why hadn't he listened to her properly?
After a long while, Rebecca slowly opened her eyes.
"You're awake?" Duncan's voice came from beside her.
The moment she heard him, her eyes reddened with grievance. Her voice came out hoarse and trembling.
"Duncan... don't hit me... I really didn't... sob..."
Duncan frowned, his voice low.
"I'm sorry. I was too impulsive. That was my fault. I'm really sorry, Rebecca..."
At his words, Rebecca felt a surge of triumph inside. You idiot... You nearly scared me to death.
But on the surface, she looked fragile and pitiful, tears glistening as her voice trembled.
"I don't blame you, Duncan... As long as you still believe me... that's enough..."
Suddenly, she stopped crying, her expression turning serious.
"Duncan, I think that person might not even be Ms. Hale at all! This could all be Agnes's plan!
"She found someone who looks like her and used her as bait!"
Duncan fell silent. After a long pause, he said, "I've thought about that too. That Monica is very different from before."
"Duncan, we can't let our guard down! We almost fell right into their trap!"
Duncan patted her shoulder and said in a deep voice, "I'll have someone investigate. For now, don't make any moves. We wait and see."
Then, his tone softened slightly. "You... The baby..."
Rebecca's cheeks flushed faintly. She threw herself into his arms, her voice soft and tearful.
"Duncan... actually... I already knew I was pregnant...
"I just didn't dare tell you. I know your heart belongs to Ms. Hale...
"I didn't want to come between you two..."
Tears streamed down her face as she pleaded, "I know that night was an accident, but...
"This child is innocent. Please, let me keep it. Please..."
Duncan looked at the woman crying in his arms, his gaze drifting to her stomach. A trace of hesitation stirred in his heart.
After all, it was his child too.
After a long silence, his voice turned hoarse.
