The people in the warehouse straightened immediately when Carmen appeared.
"Ms. Fletcher, you're here. He's inside."
"Mm."
She followed them into a room.
It looked less like a warehouse and more like an emergency operating theater that was filled with medical equipment, monitors, and sterile lights.
Several doctors in surgical gowns stood aside and reported, "Ms. Fletcher, his vital signs are stable. He lost a lot of blood and is very weak, but with rest, he'll recover."
"Mm."
Carmen waved her hand lightly. The doctors and staff bowed and left the room without another word.
She walked slowly to the operating table and looked down at the man lying there. Then she leaned in close, her voice soft and almost intimate.
"Hello there, Duncan."
Duncan was fitted with an oxygen mask, his eyes wide with fear and confusion, struggling to make sounds.
Carmen gently removed the mask. "I saved you. You don't need to thank me."
Duncan recognized her immediately. She was from the Shaws.
He remembered clearly that Matthew had introduced him to Frank and Carmen.
At that time, Matthew had said he was just a distant relative named "Ivan Shaw." So how did she know his real name?
And why had she saved him?
His voice trembled. "Who are you? How do you know my name? Why... did you save me?"
Carmen stood upright, smiling faintly with amusement.
"I recognized you immediately at that charity auction at my father's event.
"Ivan? Haha! My father really has a talent for naming trash."
Then she leaned in again, studying his face like a puzzle.
"Hey, Duncan, do you really not recognize me at all? Take a good look at this face."
Duncan searched his memory desperately. Nothing. No trace.
Carmen clicked her tongue in disappointment and straightened up.
"Tch, forget it."
"Why... why did you save me?" Duncan forced out. "Do we know each other?"
Carmen's smile turned colder. "Of course we do!"
"I know both you and your sister Ursa very well."
Duncan blinked in confusion. "You're Ursa's friend?"
"I wouldn't go that far," she replied lightly. "Your sister was very important to me.
"But I heard she's in prison now. What a shame."
