The room was so quiet you could hear a pin drop.
Kenneth's face was already red with anger. His ungrateful son was openly going against him in front of so many people.
He had carefully planned this engagement party. His goal was to force Neal into giving in.
First, he wanted to publicly announce the marriage between the Ruells and the Brogdons. Vivian was supposed to be Neal's fiancée.
Second, he wanted to embarrass Agnes and make her give up and leave on her own.
On the surface, the Ruells seemed to accept things, but in truth, they were just waiting for the right moment.
But who would have thought Neal refused to be pushed around? He didn't care about the family's reputation at all.
Kenneth was shaking with rage. He pointed at Agnes with a trembling hand and shouted, "Get out of here! We don't welcome a scheming woman like you! My only daughter-in-law will always be Vivian!
"I'm telling you—over my dead body, you'll never step foot into my family! Now get out of here!"
The Ruells' servants rushed over when they heard him, trying to drag Agnes out.
Neal stood in front of her, his eyes red with rage as he shouted angrily, "Let me see who dares!!!"
The servants exchanged looks. No one dared to take another step forward.
Kenneth pointed at Agnes and said coldly to Neal, "You can fool around with a woman like her, but you can't be serious! She's nothing but trouble, a scheming woman!
"All she cares about is money and power. If you insist on staying with her, then get out of this house, too! Don't ever come back!"
Neal's face darkened. He stepped closer to Kenneth, his low voice sounding like a raging beast.
"You think I care about anything in this family? Heh. Keep it all for yourself."
"You brat!" Kenneth trembled hard, clutching his chest as if he might collapse at any second.
Agnes quickly grabbed Neal's arm and said, "Neal, please. Calm down. Just talk this out nicely.
"Don't make things worse. I really don't want to get involved in your family's mess. I'll leave first..."
But Neal grabbed her hand tightly. "Agnes, don't go. I know you were wronged today. I won't let you take the blame for this.
"I've wanted to say this for a long time. This place is a cage to me. Like chains. I'm done with it!!"
At that moment, Emily rushed over after hearing the noise. She kept trying to calm Neal down.
"Neal, you can't blame your dad. He's doing this for your own good."
She lowered her head and began to cry, wiping her face as she spoke, "Actually, there's another reason we did all this. Sigh..."
Emily slowly walked over to Vivian and gently held her hand.
