Love After Leaving: No Regret (Agnes and Raymond) novel Chapter 366

He slapped his thigh and swayed back and forth, dragging out every word as he laughed.

"Everyone, come look at this! This is outrageous! They're bullying honest people in broad daylight!"

The middle-aged man looked like he was crying miserably, yet after a long time there were only loud howls without a single tear. He even pinched his nose while pretending to sob.

Then came a loud snort as snot sprayed all over the ground, and he casually wiped his fingers on his clothes as if it were nothing new.

"Come see, everyone! Judge for yourselves!

"These city folks have no morals, no respect for the law, barging into our home to take people away! They want to push this old couple to death!

"Oh God! I can't live like this! My poor son! Dad is coming to find you now!"

His exaggerated tone, mixed with fake crying, sounded just like those hired mourners in rural funerals.

Townsfolk began gathering one after another. Eventually, even the mayor was alerted.

People from the same town naturally stood together. No matter what, they would not let outsiders take one of their own away.

But Agnes had already sensed something was wrong earlier and had instructed the lawyer to contact the police.

When the officers arrived, they investigated the situation, verified the lawyer's identity, and reviewed the video evidence he provided.

On the spot, they moved to detain the middle-aged couple. Even when the mayor tried to intervene, it had no effect.

The middle-aged man realized Agnes and her group were serious and that he could not talk his way out of it this time, so his expression changed immediately. With a forced smile, he said,

"Hey. Ms. Sinclair, I was just joking with you earlier.

"Actually, we're willing to donate. We really are.

"It's all just a misunderstanding... a misunderstanding..."

He thought for a moment.

"As long as you tell them not to arrest us, we... we can still go ahead as planned."

Agnes said, "I can choose not to pursue charges, but don't even think about playing any tricks again."

The middle-aged man nodded repeatedly.

"Yes. We won't. We really won't. I promise."

Agnes asked the lawyer to explain things to the police, and the crowd gradually dispersed.

Still smiling ingratiatingly, the middle-aged man politely invited Agnes and her group inside, serving tea and arranging seats like a gracious host.

Agnes went straight to the point. "I want to know why you suddenly changed your decision."

The couple exchanged uneasy glances, their expressions stiff.

The woman muttered,

"We... we just changed our minds. We wanted to keep our son's body intact..."

She paused, then continued, "Ms. Sinclair, you know how it is in rural areas. When someone dies, the body must remain whole. Otherwise, the soul cannot rest in peace.

"It will affect the family's burial luck and bring misfortune to the entire town."
