Love beyond the mask (Whitney) novel Chapter 1289

Whitney knew exactly how devious this man could be—every word from him was just another trap laid out for her.

There’s no way she was going to let him guilt-trip her.

“Natalie doesn’t expect anything from me. Don’t try to use her to shackle me—it’s not going to work.”

Ludwik arched an eyebrow, catching her drift.

Of course, his mother felt guilty about a lot when it came to Whitney—too guilty to even bring it up, and he knew it was all because of him.

His gaze was sharp, intense, pinning her down. Even if she were just a tiny goldfish, she wouldn’t be able to slip out of his grasp.

But Ludwik wasn’t worried. He knew the little fish was only putting up a last fight. Eventually, she’d be trapped in his palm, no way out.

He flexed his long, slender fingers, stealing a quick glance at the car behind them, then smoothly changed the subject: “Shane and Sandy are sharing a ride?”

Whitney shot him a look that said, ‘What do you think?’

“He picked up all his sneaky tricks from you, didn’t he?”

Ludwik’s eyes narrowed. “I didn’t teach him anything. And I don’t have any sneaky tricks.”

Yeah, as if she’d forgotten all the shameless games he used to play to win her over…

“We’re at the Sheldon Mansion.” Ludwik gazed out the window, voice low and even.

Whitney glanced over and saw the grand gates of the Sheldon family estate wide open. Security guards stood at attention, and the courtyard was quiet. Through the window, she caught a glimpse of people moving about—probably Sienna’s family.

She could guess her dad was inside, handling the mess after Emma’s suicide attempt...

“Don’t want to get out?” Ludwik’s sharp eyes flicked to her, his voice a quiet rumble.
