Chapter 735 If Fate Allows
It was clear that Regan had poured his heart into looking after the estate.
Taking three lit incense sticks from Regan, Elowen bowed deeply three times before the Hale ancestors. She rose, placed the incense into the burner, and spoke softly. “Father, Mother, Julian, uncles… I am leaving. I’m going to Nordia with Cassian. I never wanted to trove so far from home, but in this matter, my hands are tied.”
Though her mother’s tablet was already pristine, Elowen took out a handkerchief and gently wiped it anyway. As she did, she murmured softly, “Mother, when I brought Poppy and Phoenix here last time. I told you that I had discovered the truth of my birth, and that I am the current Oracle of Nordia. I’ve decided to go there now. You spent your childhood with Grandfather in Falkriver, and then you came to Vanelle with Father, so you never got to see what Nordia is like. I’m going to see it for you.”
After speaking with her mother, Elowen turned to her brother Julian’s tablet. “Julian, I’m off. Next time I’m back. I’ll bring you some Nordian wine.”
By the time they left Hale Manor, the sun was already high in the sky.
Regan escorted them to the door. “Rest assured, Ms. Hale… with me here, nothing will go wrong at the manor.”
Emberfang sat on his haunches beside him, wagging his tail and letting out a couple of barks as if in agreement.
A warm smile touched Elowen’s eyes. “Thank you. Well… if fate allows, I’ll see you next time.”
She stepped into the carriage and lifted the curtain, taking one last look at Hale Manor, the place where she had grown up. Seeing the white-haired old man and the big yellow dog standing by the entrance filled her heart with a bittersweet mixture of comfort and sorrow.
Letting the curtain fall, she leaned against Cassian’s shoulder in silence.
The carriage rumbled forward, rolling through the alleys and bustling marketplaces as it headed toward the southern part of the city.
Elowen rarely visited Isobel’s tavern, but looking at it today, it was packed with guests and doing a roaring
trade.
When Elowen stepped down from the carriage at the side door, Isobel hurried over to greet her the moment she heard the news.
“It’s so crowded today,” Elowen said with a smile. “I’m afraid there won’t be a private room left for us.”
