Chapter 739 A Whole Lot of Trouble
Elowen nodded and stepped into the carriage.
Behind them, Caius and Emily sat in the next carriage, cradled by their wet nurse and nanny The toddlers had no idea they were embarking on a long journey; thinking it was just a fun day trip, they were clapping and kicking their feet in pure excitement.
At the very front of the procession rode James on a tall, imposing horse. With a sword strapped to his waist, he looked exceptionally commanding. Dorothy and Elara followed in a carriage behind him, with Elara poking her head out the window, looking around in wide-eyed wonder.
The convoy slowly made its way out of the lane and merged onto the main street of Vanelle.
Onlookers along the roadside stopped in their tracks, whispering among themselves.
“Whose convoy is that? What a grand turnout!”
“It’s from Duskmoor Manor! The Duke and Duchess are setting off as envoys to Nordia!”
“Now that the Duke and Duchess are leaving, who knows when they’ll be back…”
As the chatter gradually faded into the distance, the carriages passed through the city gates and embarked on the great highway leading to Nordia.
The autumn countryside stretched endlessly to the horizon, its golden rice fields undulating in the breeze like a vast, shimmering sea.
Riding alongside Elowen’s carriage, James called out cheerfully through the window curtain, “Your Grace, it’s going to be a bumpy ride, so please take care. If you start feeling cooped up, just look out at the scenery. Otherwise, the motion might get to you, and you won’t be able to
years keep anything down. Now, someone like me is a different story. I’m built tough, and after of riding into battle, nothing phases me.”
Elowen parted the curtain and replied with a smile, “Thank you for the advice, James. I’ll keep that in mind.”
The convoy traveled for most of the day. As the sun began to sink in the west, Cassian ordered the group to make camp for the night near a small grove of trees by the roadside.
The guards immediately set to work pitching tents and building campfires to cook dinner. Mira and Cora busied themselves arranging cushions and setting out refreshments, while Gerda and Edith carried the two children out of the carriage to get some fresh air.
Just as Elowen stepped down from her carriage, the sound of dry heaving caught her attention from a short distance away.

Chapter 230 A Whole Lot Trouble

She followed the sound and found James crouching beneath a large tree. He was pale, clutching his stomach, and losing his lunch completely.
Elowen stared in utter disbelief.
Dorothy stood beside him, rubbing his back as she chided, “That’s what you get for showing off! Riding for hours and insisting you weren’t tired. Look at you now.”
James looked up, forcing a weak smile onto his sickly pale face that looked more like a grimace. “I’m fine… really… just a bit… carsick…”
Before he could finish, his stomach violently churned again, and he quickly turned back to the tree to continue retching.
Standing nearby, Elara laughed out loud without a shred of sympathy. “Dad, didn’t you say you used to ride from sunrise to sunset on the frontier without even breaking a sweat? You barely lasted half a day!”
James shot her a glare, wanting to snap back, but he couldn’t form the words and could only go back to dry heaving.
Watching the scene unfold from the side of her carriage, Elowen couldn’t help but burst into laughter.
Meanwhile, thousands of miles away in the heart of Nordia.
Inside a dimly lit tent, a tall man sat on a daybed. His face was masked in shadow, revealing only a sharply defined jawline and narrow, upturned eyes.
A subordinate knelt on the ground, reporting respectfully with a bowed head. “…The convoy of Duke Cassian and Duchess Elowen of Avenlor has already passed through Goose Pass. They are expected to cross into Nordish territory in about two weeks.”
“Oh?”
The man’s voice trailed upward. “There is no Duke Cassian and Duchess Elowen here. Just the Nordish Oracle and her boy toy.”
Stunned, the subordinate looked up, his face filled with shock. “The Oracle?!”
The Oracle had been gone before he was even born. He had only ever heard his elders speak of the glorious era when Nordia still had one.
His voice shook slightly. “Master… do you mean… this Lady Elowen from Avenlor is actually…”
“Why look so innocent and utterly lost?”

Resting his chin on his hand, the man flashed a playful, mocking smile. “Get back to work. The Oracle is coming, and we need to give her a proper welcome. For instance, by making a bit of trouble for her.”
