Chapter 772 A Drop Of Mercy
Valessa nodded. “Nailed it.”
Talking to smart people was just so refreshingly easy.

But her expression instantly hardened. “Kingsport is a mess right now, and I’m worried there are vipers in the palace gunning for your life. Until Cassian arrives, I won’t expose your identi as the Oracle. You’ll stay by my side as Molly Dray. With my authority as the Princess Royal, I can guarantee your safety. Once Cassian gets here in a few days, I’ll reunite you two.”
Elowen offered a genuinely grateful smile. “Thank you, Your Highness. That’s a flawless plan.”
Suddenly remembering something, she asked, “By the way, it was the real Zachary sitting out there today. Princess Flowira was nowhere to be seen. Why is that?”
Valessa’s face changed slightly.
Lowering her voice, she said grimly, “Flowira has gone missing.”
Elowen was stunned. “Missing?”
Valessa hummed in confirmation. “The King recently handed some city duties to his sons, including Zachary. You already know Flowira covers for Zachary most of the time. The other day, she went out disguised as him to investigate a murder, got ambushed, and vanished without a trace. To prevent total panic, we kept it strictly under wraps. We put the real Zachary back in the public eye and claimed Flowira is too sick to take visitors. Meanwhile, we’ve got secret squads turning the city upside down looking for her.”
Elowen asked, “How long has she been missing?”
Valessa did the math. “About seven days.”
“Seven days… that’s not too bad. It hasn’t been too long.”
Elowen quickly followed up. “What murder was she investigating?”
“The biggest brothel in Kingsport is called The Crimson Lantern,” Valessa explained. “A while ago, two people ended up dead there-a working girl and a member of House Harrow. It caused a massive uproar, so the King assigned Zachary to investigate it.”
Elowen stayed quiet, rubbing her fingers together as she sank into deep thought.
With House Harrow involved and Flowira missing, this case was definitely not as simple as it seemed.

Valessa added, “I’m swamped today, but I’ll take you to The Crimson Lantern tomorrow to a look.”
Elowen nodded slightly. “Alright.”
She paused. “Oh, by the way, I brought a servant along with me.”
Valessa gave her a sideways, teasing look. “Weren’t you separated from Cassian? You picked new servant that fast?”
Elowen cocked an eyebrow. “Just my natural charm, I guess?”
Valessa let out a soft laugh.
It was her first genuine smile since Flowira disappeared.
Elowen continued, “His name is Thomas. He traveled north with me to find his wife. I promised to help him track her down.”
Valessa looked regretful. “If Flowira was around, finding someone would be a breeze. But righ now, our top priority is actually finding Flowira.”
Elowen’s voice was filled with absolute certainty. “Don’t worry. I’ll help you find her.”
Valessa finally felt a massive weight lift off her shoulders. “Good.”
She then asked, “So, you picked up our language?”
Elowen smiled. “Just a bit. Not much, but enough for basic conversation.”
Valessa raised an eyebrow. “Did Cassian teach you?”
“Actually, no. A young girl traveling with us taught me.”
Thinking of Maya, Elowen felt a pang of sympathy and didn’t mind pulling some strings to get her a pardon.
“She’s from Willow Ridge too, name’s Maya. She was drafted as a consort for Prince Zachary, but she already has a fiancé. They’re deeply in love, and she cried her eyes out several times on the way up. I’m a softie, so I figured I might as well help keep them together instead of tearing them apart.”
In a heartbeat, Valessa replied, “That’s a minor detail. If the Oracle asks, consider it done. I’ll have men escort Maya back to her fiancé immediately.”
Elowen stopped her. “Maya actually ran away last night. It would be best if you just called off the search and pardoned everyone involved.”

That way, Maya wouldn’t have to spend her life looking over her shoulder, and Whitaker wouldn’t lose sleep worrying about losing his head.
Neither of them were bad people, and Elowen felt genuine pity for them.
Valessa beamed. “Whatever the Oracle wishes.”
Meanwhile.
