Loving The Better Brother novel Chapter 36

Chapter 36 Mind Reader

WILLOW

In the end, I decided that if I was going to take myself out on a date, I might as well do it properly.

I chose the most expensive cafe I had ever dared to bookmark on my phone, but never had the courage to enter. Back then, when Marcus and I were still together, I would pass by this place and glance at the soft golden lights inside, wanting to go inside and try the beautiful pastries.

However, I never asked him about such things.

It always felt like too much.

Tonight, I pushed open the glass door myself.

I looked around until I found a secluded corner near the back, hidden by a decorative partition.

I liked it immediately. No one could interrupt me here. I ordered from the counter, and when the server finally placed my plate down in front of me, I couldn’t hide my expression.

The portion was tiny!

I was almost certain I would still eat back at Kath’s place later.

It was so irrationally expensive, too.

But hey. I guess that is the price you pay for ambiance.

I sighed and picked up my fork.

The brioche looked soft, glossy with a thin layer of cream and fruit. I took a careful bite and let out a deep breath.

It tasted really good. There was a problem with luxury tasting good. It was annoying that such an expensive thing could taste worth it!

However, despite the sweet and rich taste, my mind still replayed the scene in the meeting room a while ago.

I pressed my lips together and forced myself to take another bite.

Just as I lifted the fork, someone slid into the seat beside me.

I knew it was you,he said.

My grip tightened around the fork before I slowly turned my head.

Why did I have to run into him so many times this month?

Tristan sat a few inches away from me, his arms crossed over his chest.

What are you doing here?I asked. He reached for a napkin. Before I could react, he leaned closer.

He gently pressed the napkin to the corner of my mouth and wiped.

What are you doing?I demanded, instinctively pulling back.

He held up the napkin between his fingers.

A small streak of cream marked the fabric.

There was some chocolate there,he said, his smirk deepening.

Heat rushed to my cheeks.

Answer my question,” I insisted, straightening in my seat. What are you doing here?

He leaned back comfortably.

Did you know that this is my spot?he asked.

I frowned. What?

It’s a private area,he continued casually. I sit here whenever I come here, so I

I pursed my lips. Well, I wasn’t aware that you own this place. You should buy it if you expect it to be free all the time.

He did not respond. He simply looked at me.

Something about his silence made my stomach drop.

My eyes widened slowly. You do own this place?

Out of everything else in the city.

Out of all the corporations, properties, and investments,

He actually owned this place?

He lifted one shoulder in a halfshrug.

I looked down at my plate of sweets and shook my head.

Honestly, I shouldn’t even be surprised.

I pushed my chair back.

I’ll leave,” I muttered, grabbing my bag.

I was sad to let all the food go, especially since it was so expensive, but suddenly my appetite had vanished completely.

Stay.

His hand closed gently but firmly around my wrist. The contact sent a quiet jolt up

my arm.

I looked down at where his fingers wrapped around me, then back at his face.

You said this was your place,” I reminded him.

So?he asked calmly.

You were here first, and I’m allowing you to sit,” he added.

Tristan. I am not in the mood.”

You said my first name even without me asking this time,he observed.

I clicked my tongue in annoyance. That is not the point.”

Stay,” he said again.

This time, his voice was softer.

Don’t waste food.
