Chapter 74 Sand
WILLOW
Fuished
The city lights slowly faded behind us as Tristan drove further down the road. The air that slipped through the slightly opened window carried the faint scent of salt, and the sound of the ocean gradually became louder the closer we got.
I rested my elbow against the window and watched the dark horizon. For the first time that day, my mind felt lighter.
The pressure of hiding who I truly was felt distant for now.
Tristan pulled the car into a small parking area near the beach. The place was quiet, with only a few scattered street lamps lighting the path toward the shore.
He turned off the engine and glanced at me.
“We’re here.” he said simply.
I opened the door and stepped out.
The cool night air brushed against my face, and the soft roar of the waves instantly wrapped around me.
The beach stretched out before us, dark and wide, the water reflecting the light from the moon above.
“It’s been a while,” I said quietly with a small smile.
Tristan closed the car door and walked beside me as we stepped onto the sand. The grains shifted beneath my heels, making me slow my pace slightly as we moved closer to the water.
The beach was almost empty.
I tilted my head upward instinctively.
The stars were brighter away from the city lights.
“Wow,” I murmured.
Tristan followed my gaze.
We walked a little further until we were several steps away from the tide. Without thinking too much about it, I sat down on the sand. Then I leaned back and stretched out completely.
The sand felt cool beneath me, and the night sky spread endlessly above.
Tristan remained standing beside me. I turned my head slightly.
“Are you just going to stand there?” I asked.
He looked down at me with mild disbelief.

“You just lie down on the sand,” he said.
“Yes.”
“It will get everywhere,” he muttered, removing his blazer. “At least, lay on this one.”
He placed it on the sand beside me like a protective layer.
I stared at it, then back at him, before shaking my head.
“You’re too uptight.”
Before he could protest, I reached out and grabbed his arm, pulling him closer.

He stumbled slightly in surprise before landing beside me on the sand. I didn’t give him any time to react
as I reached for his shoulder and pushed him down until he was lying next to me.
“Willow-
“It’s just sand.” I said.
He sighed deeply.
“It is going to be annoying to remove later.”
I turned my head back toward the sky.
“It’s just sand,” I repeated.
For a moment, I thought he might actually get up, but he didn’t.
He stayed there beside me.
The two of us were lying side by side like children who had escaped adulthood for a few minutes.
“Look at the stars,” I said.
Tristan glanced upward briefly and huffed.
“I’m too old to look at the stars.”
I turned my head toward him immediately.
“No one is too old for stars.”
He looked unconvinced. I pointed upward anyway.
“Look,” I said.
My finger traced the sky as I began pointing out different constellations.
“That one is Orion,” I said.

“And that one…”
I shifted my hand slightly.
“…that’s Cassiopeia.”
Tristan followed my finger, though he looked more amused than impressed.
“You like the galaxy?” he asked.
I shrugged.
“I always found space fascinating.”
I watched the stars as I continued speaking.
“There is so much space out there,” I said quietly. “And yet we know so little about it.”
The ocean waves rolled softly in the background.
“It’s like the ocean.” I continued. “There is always something new to discover.”
For a moment, neither of us spoke. Still, I could feel his gaze on me.
I turned my head slightly.
Tristan was looking at me and not at the stars.
“You are like the galaxy and the ocean then,” he said.
“Huh?”
His lips curved slightly.
“Even when I think I know you,” he said slowly, “there is always more to unravel.”
My cheeks warmed slightly. I shook my head.
“I’m sure I’m not as interesting as the ocean and the galaxy.”
“That’s right,” he said immediately.
I turned toward him with narrowed eyes.
“That’s right?” I repeated.
“You are much more,” he teased.
I scoffed and pushed his shoulder lightly.
He chuckled. I turned toward him more fully then, studying his face in the faint moonlight.
For some reason, something about him looked softer tonight.

“I thought you were perfect back then,” I said quietly. The words slipped out before I could stop them.
Tristan’s expression shifted slightly
“Nobody is perfect,” he said calmly.
“You’re right,” I muttered.
Then I looked at him again.
“You come close, though.”
He raised a brow.
“Oh?”
“But you do have a flaw,” I added.
He turned his head toward me.
“What is it?” he asked, his arm under his head. His voice carried genuine curiosity. “I’m very interested in hearing this.”
I smiled mischievously,
“You act like an old man.”
“What?” he exclaimed.
The shock on his face made me giggle immediately. I covered my mouth, trying to stop laughing.
“You’re fussy with cleanliness,” I continued. “You are very reserved. You don’t like sand.”.
I pointed at the ground beneath us.
“You also clearly don’t like this.”
“That does not make me old,” he protested.
I raised a brow.
“I am sure this is not the first time you’ve heard that, old man.”
He looked genuinely offended.
“Old man?” he repeated.
I nodded seriously.
“Yes.”
He stared at me for a moment.

Fintaled
Then suddenly, his arms wrapped around me. I yelped in surprise as he pulled me upward effortlessly.
“Tristan!”
He stood up with me still in his arms.
“I will show you just how spontaneous I can be,” he said.
My eyes widened.
“What are you doing?”
He did not answer. Instead, he began walking toward the sea.
“Tristan.” I said cautiously.
The waves rolled closer.
“Triştan.”
He continued walking.
The water glimmered under the moonlight, and it was at that moment that I realized exactly what he was planning.
“Wait,” I said quickly.
He stepped into the water. The cold sea splashed against his shoes.
“Tristan-”
