One moment, I was sitting in the cafe, wrapped in a blanket, unable to form any words. Next, I was lying on her couch, my head resting on her lap as her fingers ran gently through my hair.
The rain outside had not stopped. It tapped steadily against the windows, like a quiet reminder of everything that had happened tonight.
“There, there,” Kath murmured softly.
I was thankful because my voice made everything hurt a little less.
I didn’t want to go back to the mansion tonight. To be specific, I didn’t want to risk seeing him -even if a part of me doubted he would even be there.
Still… I could not take that chance.
Kath’s fingers continued their slow, soothing motion through my hair.
“Are you ready to tell me everything?” she asked gently.
I swallowed before nodding, my head still resting on her lap.
“I waited,” I whispered. “I waited for four hours, to be exact.”
Kath’s hand paused for a brief second before continuing.
“He didn’t show up,” I added.
Her fingers stilled completely. I could feel the shift in her mood without even looking at her.
“Did he contact you?” she asked, her tone sounding sharp and annoyed.
“No,” I muttered.
“Did you try contacting him?”
“Yes,” I answered quickly.
“Of course I did,” I added, my voice trembling slightly. “I wasn’t just going to sit there forever without trying to reach him.”
Even if that was exactly what I ended up doing.

“I called him,” I continued. “More than once.”
He didn’t answer once, either.

“I didn’t want to keep waiting,” I admitted. “But I kept thinking… maybe he was just busy. Maybe something came up.”
Maybe he would show up at the last minute. Maybe he would run toward me and apologize.
Maybe-
I squeezed my eyes shut.
“It just… got too much,” I whispered.
Kath let out a quiet breath.
“You’re heating up,” she said suddenly.
I frowned slightly.
Her hand moved to my forehead.
“You’re warm,” she muttered.
“I waited in the cold. I think that serves as an adequate explanation.”
“This isn’t good,” she said, her voice laced with concern.
“What are you going to do now?” she asked softly afterward.
I shifted on her lap and stared blankly at the ceiling.
“I don’t know.”
“I was going to…” I hesitated, my throat tightening. “I was going to make it official today.”
“That was the plan,” I continued quietly. Then, I let out a bitter laugh.
“But now, I don’t even know where I stand.”
“I still want to hear from him.” I admitted.
“But even then…” I continued slowly, sighing deeply. “I don’t know.”
Marcus’s voice echoed in my mind again right at that moment.

Chapter 92 Knock Knock
Tristan went to pick up Kate from the airport today.
I swallowed hard.
Andrew had said he was picking up his sister from the airport.
Kate Petrov.
Serena had warned me not to expect too much.
All of the answers point to Tristan going to Kate when we were supposed to go on a date.
I blinked, and a tear fell from my eyes.
“I shouldn’t have expected anything,” I whispered.
Kath’s hand stilled again.
“No,” she said firmly.

“You shouldn’t have to expect less just to avoid getting hurt,” she continued. “That’s not how this works.”
I shook my head slightly, feeling another tear slip down the side of my face.
“I just…” I exhaled shakily.
Before I could finish, the doorbell rang.
It cut through the sound of my gentle crying.
Kath frowned.
“Who would come at this hour?” she muttered.
The bell rang again, more insistent this time. The person behind the door seemed to have urgent matters.
I slowly pushed myself up, my body still heavy and my head slightly spinning.
“I’ll check,” Kath said softly, standing up. “Stay here.”
I nodded weakly.
She walked to the door while I watched her insistently.
The bell rang again when, suddenly, a small shriek escaped from Kath.

My heart jumped into my throat.
“What’s happening?” I called out, my voice shaky as I stood up from the couch.
Kath appeared at the doorway almost immediately.
“Tristan is here,” she said.

Everything inside me went still.
“What?” I asked, my brows furrowing.
She stepped aside slightly, gesturing for me to come.
I hesitated for a second before walking toward her.
