I woke up to the feeling of something cool brushing against my skin. At first, I thought I was still dreaming.

Everything felt hazy–my body felt heavy, but my head was light.

I frowned slightly and forced my eyes open. My gaze instantly went to the man right next to

Tristan was sitting right beside the bed, his sleeves rolled up, his hair still slightly messy like he had not bothered to fix it. There were dark circles under his eyes, and his expression was focused as he carefully pressed a damp towel against my forehead.

The moment my eyes fully opened, his movements stilled. Relief flooded his face.

“You’re awake,” he said softly.

His voice sounded like he had been holding his breath.

I stared at him. Suddenly, everything from earlier came rushing back.

Looking at him now, I didn’t know what to feel. His explanation earlier made a lot of sense. It was quite reasonable.

However, it didn’t erase what I felt.

I sighed softly, my gaze drifting away from him and toward the ceiling.

My emotions felt messy.

The towel brushed against my skin again, pulling me back to the present.

“You still have a fever,” Tristan murmured.

I glanced at him again. He looked genuinely worried.

“Do you need anything?” he asked carefully.

I pursed my lips and shook my head slightly.

“No,” I muttered.

My voice still sounded weak. It seemed he wasn’t convinced by my answer.

“Water?” he asked.

I shook my head again.

“Food?”

I shook my head again.

He frowned slightly.

“You need to eat.”

“I will,” I said softly.

He studied me for a moment longer, like he was debating whether to push further. After that, he sighed quietly.

I shifted slightly on the bed, wincing as a dull ache spread through my body.

“You took me to your house?”

“Yeah,” he muttered slightly sheepishly.

“Sorry,” he added. “I didn’t want to wake Kath up.”

I stared at him for a second and sighed.

“It’s okay.”

It was, somehow.

Silence settled between us after that.

It wasn’t uncomfortable, but it wasn’t easy either.

He stood up after a moment.

“Eat,” he said quietly.

“I made something,” he added.

I watched as he walked over to the small table and picked up a bowl.

When he came back, I realized it was soup.

He sat down beside me again and held the spoon carefully.

It tasted good–better than I expected, despite my aching head.

I watched him silently. After a while, he let out a deep breath.

“I’m sorry,” he said again.

The words broke the silence.

I sighed softly.

“It’s fine,” I muttered. “You already explained yourself.”

“It’s not okay,” he said immediately.

His tone was firm this time.

“You must have waited,” he added quietly.

My fingers tightened slightly around the blanket.

I bit my lip and didn’t answer. It seemed we both knew the truth.

He set the bowl aside after I finished, and then moved closer. Before I could react, he pressed a gentle kiss against my forehead.

My breath hitched slightly.

I looked up at him, and my heart instantly skipped a beat.

“Do you have any questions?” he asked softly.

His gaze held mine.

“I’ll answer them.”

I pursed my lips.

There was one-

-one that had been lingering in my mind.
