Chapter 2
Issac didn’t expect me to cause such a scene, and his face turned ashen with anger.
My phone kept vibrating in my pocket, so I simply turned it off.
I didn’t pick it up until I had walked to the hillside outside the base.
“Freya, I heard you had a falling out with Alpha Issac?” It was my best friend and fellow soldier,
Alina.
“Yeah.”
“Look, I’m not saying this to be harsh, but Issac is the Alpha of the pack. You embarrassed him in
front of everyone…”
I waited for her to continue, my eyes fixed on the lights in the training field in the distance.
“Alina, I’ve wanted to join his squad since I was eighteen.”
“I know…”
I interrupted her. “Three years ago, during the selection, I was one point short. I begged him to
speak on my behalf. At that time, he was only a commander, but still had some power.”
“He said he couldn’t stand people who used connections to get ahead.”
Alina fell silent.
I didn’t give her a chance to say more.
“But Chloe made it in. She didn’t meet the standards but still got in. With me, it’s all about
principles, but with others, he can make exceptions”
“Alina, I’m his girlfriend, so I need to avoid suspicion, but the soldiers he trains don’t need to?”
“So, his principles have two sets of standards, huh?”
I laughed bitterly.
Isaac mentors many warriors, but if we’re talking about dedication, I’d rank below every last one of
them.
To them, he was the qualified commander, the respected Alpha.
But to me, what kind of boyfriend was he?
There’s only so much energy a person can have. He gave so much to them; how much was left for me?
Chapter 2
Alina stammered, trying to defend him. “Alpha just values talent…”
A dull ache pulsed in my temples.
“Alina, last year I passed the selection with top marks. I was almost guaranteed a spot in his squad. But I was reassigned to another squad. Do you know why?”
“Why…”
“Because Issac personally pulled me from the list. He said if I joined his squad, people would gossip.”
“But Chloe? He specifically called for her. Isn’t that just laughable?”
There was silence on the other end.
After a long pause, Alina finally spoke. “You have to see it from his side, too. He’s an Alpha. If
someone from his own command couldn’t even make it into his unit… it would look bad.”
I snapped. “Since when have I not made him look good?”
“Since I joined the warrior corps, I’ve been at the top. My assessments have always been perfect.
Why should I be forced to give up the squad I want just to avoid rumors?”
“And why should I sacrifice myself for others? Is this the way it’s supposed to work?”
“You tell him, we’re done!”
The voice on the other end of the line changed immediately.
It was Issac. He’d been listening the whole time.
Now that he saw I wasn’t backing down, he finally spoke.
His voice remained cold and hard, “Freya, have you made enough trouble yet?”
I shot back, “If you have the funds, why wasn’t my request approved?”
“You…”
“Twenty tables for a celebration banquet, at least two thousand per table. You have money to throw a big event for her, but you can’t lend me money for rehabilitation?”
Issac’s eyes locked onto mine, his voice flat, “That was unit funding. I have the authority to decide
how it’s allocated.”
I nodded. “I know, it’s your power, your connections. You can give it to whoever you want.”
“So, my feelings, my future, how I choose to move forward, is my own business.”

Thung up and powered off my phone.
And the world finally fell silent.
