Under everyone’s gaze, Edward didn’t answer right away Instead, he looked at Margaret. She was still sitting in her chair, calm and cool as ever.

His voice, usually so frigid, softened on purpose. “Margaret, what do you think? Do you like the idea of those two getting engaged?”

Whatever he was thinking, he pressed on. “Say what you want. I have your back.”

His words got the whole hall whispering.

Was this really Edward? His voice could sound that gentle?

Stripped of its usual icy edge, it was deep and smooth. Magnetic, almost heavenly.

People were shocked. Was this how he treated Margaret

Wasn’t the rumor that the Tucker brothers hated their sister from the country?

So why was Edward standing up for her now?

Even Margaret was a little confused.

From the original Margaret’s memories, her brothers had ignored her. Clara had made sure of that. They’d acted like she wasn’t even family.

That’s how the real Tucker heiress had been kidnapped and sold overseas without anyone noticing.

So why was Edward suddenly on her side?

The way he looked at her was complicated. He hid it well, but not well enough to fool her.

She couldn’t figure it out, and honestly, she didn’t care.

Whether her brothers supported her or not made no difference.

If they ignored her, she’d keep her distance.

If they came for her later, she wouldn’t mind adding a few more to her count.

Sure, dealing with her brothers might be messy.

Margaret’s voice was frigid. “I already broke it off with Jose. Who he marries is none of my business.”

Her casual tone stung Jose more than he wanted to admit.

Did she really not care about him at all?

He couldn’t even say why he was so angry.

Hearing this, Clara finally brightened up. She couldn’t help but shoot Margaret a smug look.

What a country fool. She had a catch like Jose and still threw him away. How stupid.

But before Clara could enjoy it, Margaret looked back at her. Her smile was wicked and seriously creepy.

“Clara, Jose is just trash I tossed out. If you’re that into picking up other people’s garbage, be my guest-1 don’t care.” Then she burst out laughing.

The hall fell completely silent. Only Margaret’s laugh remained.

She laughed boldly, recklessly, as if no one else was there.

People’s faces tightened. A frigid tingle slid down their spines.

Margaret’s move was ruthless-a direct hit to the heart.

Clara’s face turned ugly.

Margaret’s words were sharp and cruel.

If Clara still went through with the engagement to Jose now, it meant she was admitting she liked picking up Margaret’s garbage.

She felt a lump in her throat-couldn’t spit it out, couldn’t swallow it.

“I… Margaret… h-how can you say that? Jose is not garbage!”

Clara’s eyes turned red, and she burst into tears, looking utterly pitiful.

She wasn’t stupid. She dodged Margaret’s trap and tried to turn things around, to make Jose hate Margaret

even more.

Jose was furious. Being humiliated by a woman over and over-how could he take it?

This Margaret-one day, she’ll be begging me.

Margaret ignored Clara, watching coldly like she was just a spectator.

Edward spoke again, his face frosty. “Mr. Miller, if your son wants to marry Clara, go ahead. Why ask me? What does that have to do with our family?”

He didn’t mince words. He flat-out refused to accept Clara as part of the Tucker family.

“Mr. Evans, let’s call off the engagement between my son and Clara.”

Gerald got the message.

Even if Jose married Clara, it wouldn’t tie the Millers to the Tuckers.

Which meant, to the Miller family, Clara was worthless.

“Jose, let’s go.”

The Millers had been humiliated enough. They stormed out of the hall. The engagement party was over, a total disaster.

Hearing the conversation, then hearing Gerald cancel the engagement, Clara went pale as a ghost.

Terror and anxiety surged within her to the utmost!

All because of that Margaret! That country girl! That vicious woman!

Why did she have to ruin everything?

If she’d known, she would’ve finished that bitch off!

Her whole body shook with soft

“Clara!”

Rage overwhelmed her, and she passed out.

Matthew and Nichole rushed to catch he,.2

“Margaret! Happy now? You made Clara faint! You’ve shamed our whole family!” Matthew glared at Margaret like he wanted to tear her apart.

Margaret stayed cool. “This is just the start. If she can’t handle this, how’s she gonna get through the rest?”

“What do you mean?”

Facing his changed daughter, Matthew felt a sudden, nameless fear.

Margaret shrugged, a lazy, dangerous smile curling her lips. “Who knows.”

That smile sent a fresh chill down Matthew’s spine.
