As soon as Matthew came downstairs, Nichole and Clara burst into tears-their expressions shifting in a heartbeat. Their acting was so good, they could’ve won an Oscar on the spot.
“Matthew, what do we do? I just heard the tiger Kenneth sent over a few days ago broke its chain and got loose! Margaret just walked over that way. Will she be okay?”
“Dad, that tiger’s roar was so loud! It was terrifying! Did the tiger eat her?!”
They sobbed so hard one might have thought their own parents had died—though they probably wouldn’t cry this much even then.
Matthew’s heart sank. He knew about that tiger. Before Henneth had captured it, it had already killed dozens of people-utterly brutal.
Could Margaret really be dead?
Even though Matthew looked down on Margaret, she was still his daughter. He didn’t want her to die like
this.
“You three-grab the tranquilizer guns and come with me to check.”
Matthew ordered a few bodyguards to fetch the tranquilizer guns.
Nichole and Clara dabbed at their eyes, but their hearts were bursting with joy.
So much time had passed-Margaret’s delicate body was probably already eaten by the tiger, not even bones left.
“Matthew, we’re coming with you.”
“Stay here-it’s too dangerous.” Matthew knew just how terrifying that beast was. Rumor had it, over a dozen men had died when Kenneth captured it.
“Even if we’re not related by blood, Margaret’s still family! We have to go see…”
They wanted to see that bitch’s dead body with their own eyes!
Matthew sighed. “Fine. You two are just too kind. That unfilial girl treated you so badly, but you still care about her. She’s such an ingrate.”
The group marched toward the cottage in the back garden.
Before they even got close enough to see anything, Nichole and Clara wailed at the top of their lungs. “Margaret! You died so horribly! That damn tiger-how could it eat you like this?!”
Their cries were earth-shattering, full of fake grief.
The servants around them felt heavy-hearted too.
Even without seeing Margaret’s body, everyone knew her chances were slim!
That tiger had roared so fiercely earlier-it must have been feasting on something tender and delicious.
A minute later, the group drew near the cottage.

Several tall, burly bodyguards led the way, guns in hand Every one of them looked tense, afraid the tiger might leap out from nowhere and devour them.
“There’s the tiger! It’s right by Ms. Tucker’s cottage!”
Someone spotted the beast right away.
In the dark, the tiger’s eyes glowed like two green lightbulbs-cold and eerie, sending shivers down. everyone’s spines.
“Do you see Margaret? Did the tiger eat her? Is there blood on the ground?
“Oh my god, Margaret-please don’t be dead!” Nichole wailed, her heart overflowing with joy.
“Mrs. Evans, it’s too dark to see anything clearly.”
Someone flipped on a flashlight—and the light enraged the tiger. It let out a deafening roar, so powerful the ground seemed to shake.
“Oh my god! That’s terrifying!”
A few bodyguards at the front-all over six feet tall-were so scared they almost ran away.
Nichole and Clara felt a surge of fear too. They even regretted coming. What if the tiger gets out of control and bites us?
The tiger was just a few yards away. No one dared to step forward.
“Mr. Evans! There’s someone standing next to the tiger!
Through the dim light, the group made out a figure beside the beast. Even more shocking-this person was patting the tiger’s head, like it was a house cat.
“Mr. Evans! It’s Ms. Tucker! She’s alive! The tiger didn’t eat her?!”
The bodyguard gasped in disbelief.
Nichole’s mood soured instantly. “Don’t talk nonsense! That roar was so loud-she must be dead by now!”
Crack! Someone flipped on the garden lights. The entire back garden lit up bright and clear.
“Mrs. Evans, look!”
Everyone turned to look. There, beside the two-story cottage, a tiger-so big it was taller than a person even when sitting-stared at them with those glowing eyes. Next to it stood a girl in a black dress, her face expressionless. She was running one hand over the tigers head, gently.
The scene was surreal.
Other people petted cats-but this girl? She was petting tiger!
As she stroked it, she even murmured, “Good kitty, be nice.”
Everyone was stunned speechless.
