135 Chapter 135 Where I Ached
Phoebe’s POV
The tension between us had escalated to a fever pitch, a scorching heat that seemed ready to ignite. Then, suddenly, Perry froze completely. His hand stayed nestled under my dress, his palm resting possessively over my breast, radiating a warmth that felt both intimate and possessive.
I blinked, caught off guard by the abrupt change. When I looked down, I realized Perry had drifted into sleep.
“What?” I whispered, stunned. One moment, he had been devouring me with a desperate hunger, and the next, he was peacefully slumped against my chest, his breathing slow and calm.
It felt like some cruel trick played on me.
His fever had broken, but his mind was still clouded, fogged by whatever had overwhelmed him.
My eyebrows furrowed as I gently pushed his heavy body away from mine. A sudden rush of heat flushed my cheeks. God, I hoped he wouldn’t remember any of this when he woke. I had been so ready to give myself over to him completely. The thought alone twisted something deep inside me, uncomfortable and raw.
I slipped away to the bathroom, the cold tile floor cool beneath my feet, and splashed icy water on my burning face. My reflection stared back at me—flushed, wild-eyed, and trembling. My nipple throbbed where his teeth had left their mark. I tugged down my collar, revealing the dark bruise blossoming across my breast.
I pressed my lips tightly together, closing my eyes, trying to snuff out the fire still raging inside me. But when my finger brushed against my sensitive peak, the flame flared back fiercely. Before I could stop myself, my hand slid down to where I ached most deeply.
I hated myself for this weakness, yet I couldn’t stop imagining it was his touch, not mine. Though nothing could ever truly compare to the real thing.
My fingers found my slick heat, and I was shocked by how ready I was for him—both mortifying and thrilling all at once.
Sex had always been wrapped in pain and shame for me. Kevin had made sure of that. Perry’s harsh treatment during my early days here hadn’t helped either.
I’d never wanted it before.
But this was different.
The mate bond changed everything… made it feel less terrifying.
No, that wasn’t quite right. It was something entirely new—something that consumed me utterly.
I bit down hard on my lip as my legs trembled beneath me. My breaths came in ragged gasps, my face burning scarlet. The pressure inside me built quickly.
One hand moved between my thighs while the other squeezed my breast, feeling that familiar coil tighten deep in my core. I couldn’t believe I was doing this.
When release finally crashed over me, everything else faded away. My body shook as waves of pleasure rolled through me.
It wasn’t as earth-shattering as when Perry touched me, but it dulled the sharp edge of need.
Once the haze cleared, guilt crashed down hard. Shame warmed my skin as I realized I’d been thinking of him the entire time—the man I was supposed to hate.
But maybe I didn’t hate him anymore. I wasn’t exactly innocent in all of this mess either…
The only thing holding me back from moving forward was the loss of our baby.
He told Alpha Theodore about Viola, his sister who had been living at the palace. She’d fled the pack after finding her destined mate.
Seeing her there had shocked him, but Viola wanted nothing to do with him or anyone from their pack, so Reginald kept his distance.
“Living with Kevin all these years, she must have picked up useful information.”
“Think you can turn her into our spy?”
“Not sure, but I’ll try.” Reginald’s thoughts drifted to their mother, who had been falling apart since the king captured Cameron. She had no idea about Reginald’s attempt on her mate’s life.
“Good. The other alphas are getting restless. If you can’t handle this attack, we’re finished.”
If the royal forces destroyed the Obsidian Claw pack, Alpha Theodore’s territory would be next.
“You’d better have a solid plan for the second wave.”
“I can manage that if you give me more warriors. Mine were slaughtered in the ambush.”
Reginald cut off Alpha Theodore’s protest. “There’s no point holding back your forces. You’ll have to face the royals anyway if I fall.”
“You’re asking for a lot.”
“And I need your beta to take out their gamma.”
