**His Mercy Tastes Like Hunger**
**Chapter 207: Sisters Return**
**Reginald’s POV**
What in the world was Viola doing here? After months of silence, she reappeared, her figure unmistakably altered by the swell of pregnancy. How had she tracked them down, and more pressingly, how had she located their mother? Questions swirled in Reginald’s mind like a tempest, each more troubling than the last.
“I’m going to kill her!” Alpha Sterling’s voice thundered through the clearing, his fury palpable and raw.
Reginald could feel the tension crackling in the air. Sterling held Viola responsible for Kevin’s descent into madness—ever since she had left, chaos had consumed Kevin’s life, and Sterling was determined to make her pay for it.
“Reginald!” Tiara’s frantic scream sliced through the charged atmosphere as she threw herself between her furious mate and her daughter. The joy of seeing Viola again, especially in her delicate condition, made her heart swell. “Reginald! Do something! Don’t just stand there! He wants to hurt your sister!”
Tiara’s desperation was evident as she shielded Viola from Sterling’s wrath.
The other warriors lingered at the edges of the clearing, their expressions a mixture of curiosity and wariness. Most were from the Crimson Fang pack, while only a handful of Obsidian Claw survivors remained, opting to watch the unfolding drama rather than intervene. This was not their fight.
“Reginald!” Tiara’s voice rose in panic as Sterling’s grip tightened around Viola’s arm, pulling her closer with a menacing force.
That was the moment Reginald snapped into action. He broke free from Fiona’s hold, his instincts kicking in as he lunged forward to intercept Sterling. Grabbing Sterling’s elbow, he squeezed with all his strength, forcing him to loosen his grip on Viola.
“Ah!” Sterling howled in agony, his eyes blazing with fury as they locked onto Reginald, seething at the audacity of his interference. “Let me go, now!” He threatened, his voice low and dangerous, ready to shift forms and escalate this confrontation into a bloody showdown. He was hell-bent on ending Viola’s life.
“Enough!” Reginald roared, his voice echoing through the clearing as he released Sterling’s arm but immediately turned to grasp Viola’s. “Come on. We need to talk.”
He pulled Viola away from the gathering crowd, seeking a secluded spot where they could converse without prying eyes or ears.
“Be careful! Handle her gently! Don’t hurt her—she’s pregnant! Reginald!” Tiara’s voice trailed after them, filled with concern, but she didn’t follow. Deep down, she understood that despite Reginald’s fierce nature, he would never truly harm his sister.
Once they were away from the chaos, Reginald finally released Viola’s arm, the tension in his shoulders easing slightly.
“Why are you here? How did you find Mother?” His voice was firm, but beneath the surface, anxiety bubbled.
Viola remained unnervingly quiet, her gaze fixed on the ground.
“Is this how you greet your sister after all this time?” she shot back, her tone laced with defensiveness. Reginald wasn’t fooled; he saw through her attempts to deflect his questions.
“Are you here under orders? Is this some kind of trap?” he pressed, scrutinizing her face for any sign of deceit. Their brief encounters in the palace had taught him that Viola was fiercely loyal to her mate—a devoted warrior to the king. Her sudden appearance had to signify something significant.
“How can you find us when none of the royal warriors can?” Reginald challenged, his brow furrowing.
“Stop yelling at me! If you want to talk, let’s talk!” Viola shouted back, her frustration boiling over. “They couldn’t track you because they don’t know the other warriors from the Obsidian Claw and Crimson Fang packs. They only recognize you, Alpha Sterling, and key figures like the royal beta. They don’t know our mother either, so I used that advantage to search the villages. Mom found me!”
It wasn’t a lie, but it wasn’t the complete truth either.
“What’s your real purpose for being here? Don’t tell me you’ve abandoned your mate?” Reginald’s suspicion deepened, probing for the truth.
“Of course not. I just wanted to see Mom and make sure she’s safe.” Viola then shared what she knew about the movements of the royal warriors.
Their conversation turned into a heated exchange, each of them trying to assert their perspective. Finally, Viola threw her hands up in exasperation. “If you want to be suspicious of me, fine! Do it! I just wanted to see Mom.”
With that, she stormed back toward where Tiara waited, leaving Reginald to deal with the simmering tension surrounding Alpha Sterling, who still sought vengeance against Viola.
“I’m so glad you’re here. What did your brother say?” Tiara asked, her curiosity evident as she pulled Viola close.
“Come here, Mom. I need to tell you something.” Viola took her mother aside, urgency in her voice, while Reginald remained on the outskirts, grappling with the chaos that surrounded them.
