Chapter 91: A Heart Turned to Claw

Perry’s Perspective

“What did you just say?” I narrowed my eyes sharply at Timothy, my royal beta, loosening my grip on his throat just enough to allow him to gasp for air. The crushing pressure around his neck eased slightly, though my hold remained firm.

“Pregnant… Phoebe is pregnant…” Timothy struggled to breathe, his chest rising and falling rapidly. He’d been certain I was about to end him moments ago. Judging by the intensity of my glare now, he might have preferred that fate—my eyes burned with the fury of a raging inferno.

“No. She’s not,” I said coldly.

“Marcela confirmed it,” Timothy gasped, still tense beneath my grasp, which was relaxed but not entirely released. One sudden surge of rage from me, and I could break his neck in an instant. “Phoebe’s pregnant, and she’s in terrible shape. We need to get her out of there.”

My face remained unreadable, a stone mask hiding the storm of thoughts swirling inside. I froze, and Timothy dared not move a muscle, terrified that any noise might provoke me to snap his neck right then and there.

Slowly, I climbed off him and lowered myself beside my royal gamma.

The silence between us stretched uncomfortably before I finally broke it. “How serious is her condition?”

“Marcela says she needs immediate medical attention,” Timothy explained, his voice low and urgent. “Without her wolf spirit, her body can’t heal like ours can. If we leave her there, she’ll die. And so will the baby.”

He sat up straighter, studying me carefully. My expression betrayed nothing, but behind my eyes, something flickered—a reluctant acceptance of a harsh truth. This was a bitter pill to swallow.

“So, what’s your plan, Perry?” Timothy asked cautiously. “She’s carrying your child. I went down to the dungeon to see for myself what really happened. If you think about it, you’ll realize she stopped poisoning you long ago. Her heart changed. She made mistakes, but so did you.”

I responded with a single word: “Leave.”

Timothy had expected me to lash out again, but the calmness in my tone made it clear he was nowhere near breaking through my wall.

Still, Phoebe’s life was hanging by a thread. Timothy couldn’t just abandon her. “What about Phoebe?” he asked from the doorway, keeping a safe distance to avoid another chokehold.

He wasn’t sure he’d survive a second round if I lost control.

“Leave,” I repeated, offering no further explanation.

Timothy wisely held back, knowing better than to push for answers—I might explode once more.

He left the room swiftly and headed straight to the dungeon to check on Phoebe’s condition. Marcela was still by her side, tending to her, but Phoebe looked worse than before—pale, weak, and fragile.

“Can we move her now?” Marcela asked, anxiety creeping into her voice. She didn’t understand why Phoebe was imprisoned here or what had provoked the king’s wrath.

What crime could this woman have committed to deserve such punishment?

There was nothing nice about that conversation—it sounded more like a threat.

Two guards immediately obeyed, dragging Cameron away. The former beta offered no resistance as they hauled him off.

The silver bracelet still prevented him from shifting, so two guards were more than enough to control him.

“Royal Gamma Timothy, I don’t think I can save the baby if you insist on keeping her here. This place isn’t suitable for her condition,” Marcela said, shaking her head. “I don’t even think I could save the baby in the infirmary. This is hopeless.”

Timothy pressed his lips tightly together, the weight of the situation pressing down on him. He was out of options.

“How long can you keep both the baby and the mother alive?” he asked, desperation creeping into his voice.

Marcela hesitated, wanting to tell him it was impossible—that Phoebe needed to be moved immediately if there was any chance of saving them both.

But Timothy cut her off before she could speak.

“Tell me how long.”

“Half a day, maximum,” she answered quietly.
