Married at First Sight (Serenity and Zachary) novel Chapter 5338

“What about you, Oliver?” Callia asked. “You’re only three months younger than Chloe. Do you have a girlfriend yet?”

Oliver smiled.

“My three older cousins are all still single, so there's no rush. My parents don't pressure me either. They say I can find someone whenever I want because it's my life, and I should make my own decisions.

“They’ve always told me they can’t be with me forever, so I need to plan my own future. The most they can do is leave me an inheritance. But honestly, I can earn my own money. I'm not even interested in whatever assets they leave behind.

“My dad always says that when the time comes, nothing can stop it. And when the time isn’t here yet, forcing it is pointless. He said he was constantly pressured to get married when he was younger, but he never met anyone he truly liked.

“Then my mom… Well, my mom ran away while she was pregnant with me, and my dad was furious. But in the end, they got married and had me. My dad says that’s fate.”

Callia had heard that story from her parents before.

In fact, the love stories of many adults from her parents’ generation could each fill a book.

“My mom likes you a lot, and she’s always telling me to pursue you. We’ve known each other since we were kids, though, and I’ve always seen you as a little sister. Getting me to make a move on you? I just can’t do it.”

Oliver was completely honest about it.

Everyone knew Lilian adored Callia and had long hoped to become in-laws with Serenity. Unfortunately, her son was not interested in Callia romantically. His feelings for her were nothing more than pure sibling affection.

“You’re such a great person. You'll definitely meet someone even better.”

Oliver agreed. “Of course. I trust my own judgment. The woman I fall for will surely be exceptional. However, I don’t want to date a doctor, and I don’t want a career woman like Chloe either.

“Doctors are too busy, and strong career women are just as busy. It's not that I need them to take care of the household, but if they're always working, they’ll never have time for me. I can’t handle a life like Devon’s, who’s always sleeping alone.”

Callia laughed softly.

“Then you’ll need someone with an easy job who can clock out on time and come home to keep you company. But can you leave work on time? You can’t expect your future partner to be the only one making time for the relationship. You need to have time for her, too.”

Lilian sighed again.

Instead, what developed was sibling-like affection.

Then again, not every man was like Devon or Xavier, who ended up falling for the people they had known best for years.

“Jane, let’s make a trip to Satbury next week. There’s an auction there. We can attend it and, while we're there, check in on my apprentice.”

After thinking about it for a moment, Jane replied, “I’ll have to look at my schedule first and see if I can make time for the trip.”
