Around a little past nine o’clock at night, Callia got into Chloe’s car and left for the city together with Devon.
They all had work the next day, and staying overnight at FC Manor was not practical. Waking up early and rushing back to the city would just be exhausting.
So instead, they all agreed it was better to head back to the city that night. At least that way, they could sleep a little longer before work.
After the younger ones left, Jane turned to Ben and mentioned that she would be flying with Lilian to Havenmill to check on Laurence.
“Lilian would also like to attend an auction in Satbury and pick up a few antiques she likes to add to her collection.” Jane laughed again and said, “Lilian has inherited so many antiques from her mentor, yet she loves collecting more. She really took after him in that regard.”
Among the wealthy families, almost every family had some form of antique collection.
However, none of them had as many as Lilian.
Most of her personal collection consisted of ancient medical and toxicology texts. As for antiques, her mentor, the legendary Doc, had accumulated an extraordinary number of priceless pieces over his lifetime. Everything he owned was eventually left for his apprentices and the future generations.
Before passing away, Doc divided all his assets into four portions. The largest share went to Lilian. She was his only direct apprentice, and, in his eyes, she was no different from a daughter.
Laurence and Oliver each received a portion equal in value. To the old man, both his apprentice and in extension her apprentices held an equally important place in his heart, and he treated them all with the same affection.
The fourth portion was left to Noelle. Noelle’s share was slightly smaller than Laurence’s and Oliver’s, but even so, it was more than enough for her to live comfortably for the rest of her life.
Doc had said that although Noelle came to him later and he had originally taken her in to accompany and care for Laurence, she was still a child he had rescued. He wanted to ensure she had enough financial security in the future so that when she married, no one would look down on her.

“But the real difficulty lies within the family. How many of the members were once involved in the betrayal that led to the murder of his parents? How many simply stood by and watched? And how many will actually support the rightful heir?
“A large family is never easy to manage. Take Liberty, for example. She spent years just to establish herself in the Fisher family and gain everyone’s trust.”
Back when Liberty took over the Fisher family, Caroline had stepped aside willingly. If Caroline had chosen to fight for it, Liberty might still have won in the end, but it would have been a far more difficult and painful victory.

In addition, once her mother’s actions were exposed, she lost public trust. Caroline chose not to compete further and instead handed everything she had inherited from Belinda over to Liberty.
