Married at First Sight (Serenity and Zachary) novel Chapter 5345

Noelle stopped talking.

After breakfast, she cleared the table and did the dishes in the kitchen.

Laurence followed her into the kitchen and watched her clean up. He said, “We have staff to do the work for us. You don’t have to do everything yourself.”

While scrubbing a plate, Noelle replied, “If I don’t keep an eye on your food, you’d have been drugged and bedded by countless women.”

Laurence had zero comeback.

It was true that quite a few tried to slip something in his drink, and the one most desperate to get into his pants was Roxy.

Come to think of it, Roxy had not shown up in two days to pester him.

“Noelle, I don’t think I can live without you. You can’t leave me. If you ever did, I might risk getting drugged by the next person.”

Noelle did a double-take at him before uttering, “You’re an expert in medicine and toxins. You’d disgrace our teaching if you were drugged. You’d better be ready to face Lilian’s wrath.”

In the world, they should be the ones administering the drug, not the other way round.

Even if some woman managed to spike his drink, Laurence had no trouble neutralizing the poison.

As Noelle put it, Laurence was the chosen successor of two generations of miracle doctors. If someone could drug him and take him down, it would be a total embarrassment to the medical lineage. Lilian was bound to show up, eager to straighten him out.

“No other heiress is as relentless as Roxy.”

The girls had never seen Laurence’s face, so they did not know what he looked like. While they were impressed by what Laurence could do, they had too much self-respect to drug him.

Laurence grimaced. “Why would I miss her? I would never accept anything from her. She set up flowers at the entrance of the office building the other day just to confess her feelings to me. We had to call a wheel loader to shovel the flowers away. If she had a shred of self-respect, she would have quit by now.

“I suspect that she might have switched targets.”

Laurence slipped his hands in his pants pockets and deduced, “Manny and Tony must be desperate since they can’t get to me. They feared that they would lose thirty years of work to the real successor, so they needed a rock-solid backup plan.

“A political marriage is their best option. Manny and Tony had to find a man of the highest caliber, one with power and social standing that could rival the real leader of the family.”

Since the cutlery was only for two, Noelle was quick with washing the dishes.

Her eyes sparkled at Laurence’s analysis, and she said, “They might find Louis to be the perfect candidate.”

The only guy good enough in Havenmill was Laurence, but Laurence was the enemy. Tony and Manny were already convinced that Laurence was the boy from thirty years ago, so they would rather get Laurence killed than form a marriage alliance with him.
