Married at First Sight (Serenity and Zachary) novel Chapter 5596

Once they entered the house, Jane urged Laurence and Noelle to eat.

The ledgers were placed on the coffee table, and the elders casually flipped through them. Jane closed the book in her hands and said, "These books are so perfect that anyone who knows what they're doing would immediately realize that something is wrong. Someone unfamiliar with bookkeeping would just think the records are incredibly thorough."

Serenity said, "Exactly. It's obvious that something is off. Laurence is doing the right thing by auditing the accounts first. Whether it's the family's internal accounts or the company's finances, everything needs to be reviewed.

"It's not just about finding faults with his enemies. He needs to know exactly where things stand."

Lilian chimed in. "That's right. Laurence understands that."

She flipped through the ledgers again. "But he brought back so many at once. When will he even finish reviewing them?"

"He said Noelle will look through them. These are the accounts for the secondary residence where the head of the Longbottom family lives. Noelle is good with numbers, and she'll be the matriarch in the future, so she needs to understand these matters. He wants her to review the accounts from now on.

"But there's too much here for Noelle to handle alone. It would be exhausting. I told Laurence to review them with her. This matter is something they both have to handle. I can't have Noelle wearing herself out. It'd break my heart."

Serenity laughed. "And it wouldn't break your heart if Laurence got tired?"

Jane said, "He's a grown man. How tired could he possibly get from looking through a few ledgers?"

In the dining room, Laurence was serving Noelle a bowl of soup and filling her plate with her favorite dishes.

Ever since the elders had arrived, many of the dishes served had been Noelle's favorites. His preferences had been pushed to the bottom of the list, sometimes so far down they barely counted at all.

In the past, Noelle would always put him first. The dishes on the table were inevitably all of his favorites.
