Married to the Billionaire Who Betrayed Me novel Chapter 59

Chapter 59 Refusing His Desperate Public Plea

“Minerva,” Tristan repeated. He lowered his voice. “I need five minutes. Just five minutes in private.’

I tilted my head.

‘We possess zero mutual interests to discuss, Mr. Johnston,” I stated.

I took a step to my left, intending to bypass him.

Tristan shifted his weight, mirroring my movement. He blocked the path again. The distance between us shrank. The familiar scent of cedar and rain wrapped around me. A year ago, that scent meant safety. It meant quiet mornings in a hidden bed. Now, it smelled

like a trap.

“I watched your presentation,” Tristan said. His eyes darted across my face, searching for a fracture in my makeup, searching for the pale scar on my cheek. The Aegis formula hid the damage completely. “I watched the broadcast from your warehouse.”

“Then you remain updated on the quarterly metrics for my company,” I replied. I kept my hands relaxed by my sides. I refused to cross my arms. “If you wish to discuss wholesale distribution within your supply lines, contact my logistics team. They handle

vendor inquiries.”

A muscle jumped in his jaw. The legendary control of Tristan Johnston fractured in the middle of the crowded atrium. The elite investors and socialites in the surrounding space pretended to ignore us, but their eyes tracked every micro-expression. They waited for the explosion.

“Stop talking to me like a stranger,” Tristan demanded. The words tore from his throat, raw and unpolished.

“You are a stranger,” I replied. I did not blink. I held his steel-gray gaze. “I knew a man named Tristan. He died a year ago. I do not know the corporate executive standing in front of me.”

The color drained from his face. My apathy gutted him worse than a knife.

He reached out. His hand moved toward my arm.

It was a massive breach of his own strict public protocol. Tristan Johnston never initiated physical contact in an uncontrolled

environment.

Before his fingers could brush the fabric of my crimson sleeve, Marcus stepped forward.

The security contractor moved with terrifying speed. He inserted his broad shoulder between Tristan and myself. Marcus did not draw weapon. He did not issue a verbal threat. He simply became an immovable wall of dark fabric and muscle.

Tristan stopped. He glared at the contractor. The billionaire predator surfaced in his eyes.

‘Step aside, Tristan ordered. The command carried the weight of a man accustomed to absolute obedience.

Marcus remained silent. He looked straight ahead, ignoring the order. He answered to Eduardo Valdez and Minerva Hayes. The/

Johnston name meant nothing to him.

I raised a hand. I placed my palm flat against Marcus’s back.

“It is fine, Marcus,” I said. “Mr. Johnston is just leaving.”

1 stepped out from behind the contractor. I faced Tristan again. The desperation carving deep lines into his face almost made me

pause.

I pictured Elias. I pictured my son sleeping in his crib, safe behind a concrete wall and a security system. Tristan’s corporate machine would rip that child from my arms if he discovered the truth. He traded my dignity for a stock price. He would trade my son for a legacy. The thought forged a thick layer of iron over my heart.

“I can fix this,” Tristan pushed. He ignored Marcus. He focused entirely on me. “The press releases. The media narrative. I will issue a full retraction tomorrow morning. I will clear your name across every financial network.”

“My name is already clear, I countered. “I cleared it myself. I did not need your permission, and I do not need your retraction.”

“Minerva, please.”

The word sounded unnatural coming from his mouth. Please. Tristan Johnston did not beg.

“You sent an armed security detail to my apartment in Port Sterling, I said. I kept my voice low, ensuring the surrounding crowd could not hear the specifics. “You bought the shipping hub to corner my location. You wanted to drag me back to the Azure Tower and lock me in a gilded cage while you paraded your new fiancée in public.”

Tristan flinched. The blunt truth hit the target. ‘I wanted to keep you safe.”
