Married to the Billionaire Who Betrayed Me novel Chapter 65

Chapter 65 Cornered In The Concrete Shadows

Tristan flinched. The physical reaction ripped through his rigid posture. The blood drained from his face, leaving his skin the color

of pale ash.

He stared at me. He opened his mouth, but zero sound emerged. The invincible CEO of the Johnston Group possessed no prepared

statement for the absolute truth. The media trained him to deflect corporate scandals. They did not train him to face the woman he

destroyed.

I did not break eye contact. I watched the realization sink into his bones. I watched him process the magnitude of the damage He

inflicted twelve months ago on the floor of the Hawthorne Hotel.

“I never used that word, Tristan whispered. His voice sounded like broken glass.

“You did not have to use it,” I stated. I kept my tone flat and devoid of mercy. “You let the national press use it. You let Celeste

Whitmore use it. Your silence provided their permission. You stood ten feet away and watched them tear my dignity to shreds.”

Tristan took a step forward. The desperate look in his steel-gray eyes intensified.

Marcus shifted his weight near the elevator doors. The security contractor prepared to intervene. I raised a hand, signaling Marcus

to hold his position. I needed to finish this confrontation. I needed to close the door on the ghosts.

“I was trying to protect the merger, Tristan said. The admission cost him. His jaw clenched tight. “The Whitmore capital secured

our European expansion. I needed time to untangle the contracts. I intended to end the fake engagement behind closed doors. I

planned to bring you out of the shadows the moment the ink dried.”

I let out a harsh, bitter laugh. The sound echoed off the bare walls.

‘You expected me to wait in an Azure Tower penthouse,” I said. “You expected me to watch you parade another woman in front of

the cameras. You expected me to accept the role of a hidden asset while you secured your stock price,”

‘I expected you to trust me! Tristan fired back. The anger flared, cutting through his guilt. He ran a hand through his dark hair,

shattering his perfect, polished appearance. “I gave you an unlimited account, I gave you the penthouse. I gave you a security detail.

I provided everything you needed to stay safe.”

‘You provided a cage,”

“I provided shelter!” He closed the distance between us. He stopped inches away from my crimson suit. The heat radiating from his

body mixed with the scent of expensive cedar. ‘You threw the key card on the counter. You left the platinum ring. You walked into the freezing rain with zero cash and zero protection. Do you understand what that did to mo? (?)

I looked at the torment etched into his features. The pain was genuine. He suffered during my absence. But his suffering originated

from a loss of control, not a loss of love.

“You demand to know why I disappeared,” I said. “You demand answers.”

Chapter 65 Cornered In The Concrete Shadows

‘I tore the coast apart, Tristan confessed. The anger dissolved into raw, bleeding desperation. I hired private investigators. I bribed local authorities. You erased your digital footprint. You vanished. For three months, I woke up every morning expecting the police to call me to identify a body in an alley. I thought you were dead, Minerva.”

“I was dead,” I corrected him. I did not raise my voice. The cold absolute truth required no volume. “The woman who loved you died in that ballroom. Celeste struck my face, and you watched her do it. You chose your corporate legacy.”

Tristan closed his eyes. A sharp shudder wracked his frame. He reached out. His fingers hovered millimeters from my arm.

I did not flinch. I did not step back. I stood like a marble statue, denying him the warmth he sought.

He dropped his hand. He opened his eyes.

“The press release, Tristan choked out. “The corporate espionage charges. My board of directors initiated the protocol. They viewed

you as a hostile threat to the merger. They discovered you bypassed the security feeds and crashed the gala. They assumed you

intended to extort the company. They drafted the statement before I reached the office the next morning.”

I stared at him. The sheer cowardice of the excuse ignited a fresh wave of disgust in my chest.

“You are the chief executive officer,” I reminded him. “You own the controlling shares. You hold absolute veto power over public

relations. The board drafted the lie, but you authorized the signature.”

Tristan swallowed hard. His silence provided the confirmation.
