Married to the Billionaire Who Betrayed Me novel Chapter 84

Chapter 84 Blackmailed By The Board Member

Tristan underestimated my intellect, I corrected. “I do not care about his opinions. Get to the point.”

“The point, Frederick said, leaning forward. “Is the child in the park.”

“I observed him,” Frederick continued. “He possesses the Johnston eyes. The resemblance to Tristan at that age is striking. The timeline of your sudden departure from the capital aligns perfectly with a full-term pregnancy.”

“Your observations lack legal standing,” I stated.

“True, Frederick agreed. “But they warrant a formal investigation. The Johnston Family Charter is a complex/document, Minerva. It dictates the flow of billions of dollars. The existence of a direct male heir to the primary shareholder changes the entire balance of power on the board of directors.”

“Elias is my son,” I declared. The protective rage flared in my chest. “He is not a pawn for your board. He holds no connection to

your conglomerate.”

Frederick unclasped his leather briefcase.

“Blood dictates the connection,” Frederick countered. “Tristan acts like a wounded romantic. He refuses to acknowledge the boy because he fears pushing you further away. He protects your secret to punish himself. I do not suffer from such sentimentality.”

He pulled a thick stack of legal documents from the briefcase. He placed them on the glass desk.

“I represent the interests of the Johnston legacy, Frederick explained. His voice turned hard and uncompromising. “The board requires absolute certainty. If that boy carries Johnston blood, he belongs in the capital. He requires the proper education. He requires the proper pedigree. He cannot be raised by a cosmetics vendor in the industrial district.”

I stared at the papers. The title page featured the seal of the highest family court in the capital.

“You cannot file a custody petition,’ I said. My voice sounded thin. “You lack standing.”

“I filed a petition to establish paternity on behalf of the Johnston family trust, Frederick corrected. “We possess the capital to keep this in court until the boy turns eighteen. We will freeze your assets. We will subpoena your medical records. We will make your life

a living hell, Minerva.”

He tapped a manicured finger against the stack of papers.

“Or, Frederick offered, his eyes gleaming with malicious intent. “You can sign a cooperation agreement. You surrender primary custody to the Johnston estate. We provide you with a generous stipend. You return to Port Sterling. You keep your little makeup company, and you walk away.”

The audacity of the demand stunned me. He walked into my office and demanded I sell my child for a stipend.

“Draft the acquisition papers,’ I ordered. “Offer double the market value. I want the controlling shares secured by tomorrow morning.”

“We will have to liquidate a significant portion of our reserve capital to cover that premium, Miss Hayes, the director warned.

“Liquidate it,” I said. “I am buying a seat at their table.”
