Married To The Mad Vampire Lord novel Chapter 501

Chapter 501: Demon versus Reaper_Part 2

"What do you want?" Eden questioned, not wanting to be reminded of what he had gone through as a reaper before getting this position as the first Grim. Though the elders were believed to have come into existence without being made or born, it was a misinformation that came close to the truth, but not entirely.

Right from the beginning of time, there were no rulers in the world of the reapers; everyone was equal in position, though some were naturally stronger than others. It was not until later that the reapers decided to select from the strongest among them to become rulers. However, they could not simply choose, so they issued a challenge instead.

Since that time, demons had been known to cheat death, making it impossible to take their souls. Knowing this, the reapers decreed that whichever among them succeeded in perishing a powerful demon’s soul would become an elder, the first Grim to ascend the throne.

Eden, who was just a strong reaper without a position, wanted to become a leader more than anything. Therefore, he decided to pursue this cunning vile demon, who had not yet become a king then but was already known as the greatest manipulator to ever exist. His evil ways and his pacts with witches were infamous; he corrupted humans, leading them into sin with false promises and deceit.

Eden had made plans to perish his soul if he happened to succeed in getting it out of the demon’s vile body, but the demon sensed his death approaching, saw the reaper instantly when he entered his world, and fought back.

Despite Eden’s powers, Ereves had used his own powers to freeze him in place where he couldn’t use his abilities.

’Look what we have here, a soul taker,’ Ereves had scoffed as he circled the creature and studied it with curious delight. ’You think you can take my soul and I’ll let you. What a naïve little thing you are.’

’Release me at once, vile demon!’ Eden had snapped, to which the demon laughed in his face.

’And why should I do so? I am not as brainless as you. Let me see, what do we even have behind that hood?’

Ereves had remarked as his curiosity pushed him to flick the reaper’s hood away, revealing his bony head.

’Hell and damnation, you are all sticks and bones. Bonehead. No wonder you’d attack me, it turns out you lack the brains in that empty skull.’

’Release me!’ Eden had exclaimed, the round circles in his bony head, unfortunately serving as his eyes, flashing amber as they glared at the demon.

’You brought yourself here, bonehead. I would be a fool if I released my death. It is either you or I, and it won’t be me. Better to be safe than sorry. You will fit better turning into dust.’ Ereves had said this as flames glowed in his palm, and the reaper, who knew the demon’s fire could indeed turn him to dust, had said,

’I am only trying to do my duties, demon. Spare me.’

Ereves hadn’t expected a plea from a creature of the dead, but he scoffed anyway. ’So you can come back to kill me again? No thank you.’

’I shall not return to kill you if you help me frame your fake death. If you kill me now, another will come for you until they perish your soul. Let me go and no one will come for you again.’ Eden did not want to turn to dust when he had ambitions to be an elder, and he was willing to do anything, even if he had to go against the law.

Ereves had looked genuinely interested upon hearing those words. ’You want to make a deal with me then, I presume?’ he asked with an arched brow.

’Call it whatever you want, demon. Turning me to dust won’t save you from my others, who will come for you in order to be crowned elders.’

’You speak nothing but horseshit, bonehead. I only speak the language of deals. So, are we making one or not?’ Ereves pressed, and the reaper was forced to nod his bony head.

’Yes.’

Ereves let out a tired sigh. "You took away my daughter-in-law, and my son is going crazy in the head, destroying everything for her sake. I need her back to calm the boy again before he tears the entire world apart."

Eden looked at the demon like he had lost his mind. "That is not part of our deal. And you have to stop your son from what he is doing, because if he continues, I will be forced to go into your world to stop him myself."

Their deal did not involve another demon, and this other demon, Ereves’ son, was trouble to the world of the dead, a rare demon whose soul had once slipped close to their realm when Astral had spared his life and returned it. Because of that, he had always been considered dangerous to the balance between both worlds.

"I’ll like to see you try, Eden," Ereves said, his voice flat with challenge. "Are you going to bring her back or what?"

"I can’t bring back a soul that has been perished. It has been done since the moment she died. Perishing is final."

Ereves’ eyes turned hard. "Son of a bitch, that’s what you are, bonehead. You act like a righteous Grim following laws, how would you like it if I announce to every reaper that their elder, who they worship and adore, is nothing but a liar? I would like to watch you perish as well." 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮

"You cannot do that." Eden said.

"Watch me do it. My pass lasts for as long as I am here, and I will give you twenty-four hours of mortal time to provide her soul, or you will be the next Grim to perish." Saying that, Ereves made his way out of the chamber as he spoke over his shoulder,

"It’s going to be a win-win for both of us if you bring her back. The killing will stop, and your orders will return to normal. But if you don’t, you lose your position, and the land of the dead will lose orders forever, because my offspring will kill every single person. Every world connected to yours will fall."
