Married To The Mad Vampire Lord novel Chapter 516

Chapter 516: Going Back To Nightbrook

"Can you send someone else to bring them here? You are in no condition to move around yet," Belle asked, looking down at him where he sat on the edge of the bed.

As much as Rohan wanted to insist that he was well enough to go to Nightbrook, he would be kidding himself. For weeks he had not known what rest was and had moved around exhausting himself with a bullet wound in his back. Even a working machine needed rest, and he had pushed his body to the limit, a limit that now demanded a full recovery before anything else. If he didn’t get proper rest, his wounds wouldn’t heal well, and traveling, even through a portal, in his condition was almost close to impossible.

However, Evenly being left there wasn’t safe either. With the chaos that had fallen over the world, everyone in Nightbrook would be working to recover and rebuild everything. He had killed Zion with his flames and destroyed the royal castle, but he hadn’t killed his first son, who would soon decide to move to the other castle. The castle would be searched and eventually cleaned, and it wasn’t a place Evenly should be found in when the taking over happened.

Rohan contemplated what to do, but then his son, who was playing with Roseline’s tiny fingers, making her smile while still listening to his parents’ conversation, spoke up.

"Papa, can I go? I can go through the thing we came here from," Angel said, referring to the portal. 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂

Rohan turned to look at him with a frown. He parted his lips to say no, but stopped, silently calculating. If he opened the portal that would lead straight to the castle in Nightbrook, Angel could go.

"Your wound is not healed, I can go and bring them back here," Angel insisted, looking at his father almost pleadingly.

Rohan finally said, "I can only allow you to go if you can activate your mind link. It’s about time you start using it."

Just as Rohan shared one with Ereves, he had another bond with his children, only he hadn’t used it with Angel because the boy wasn’t old enough to operate it. It became active when a demon could speak clearly, and now, with Angel’s speech fully formed and steady, he should know how to activate his mind link with his demon family.

Belle, who did not completely understand what her husband and son meant, moved closer and took Roseline from Angel’s arms. Angel crawled toward Rohan on the bed.

"Tell me how to use it, papa," he said.

Rohan placed his hands on Angel’s small shoulders and instructed him on what to do and how to activate his mind link properly. Angel followed the instructions, and in no time, his link opened.

"Papa?" he called through the link, his voice echoing faintly in Rohan’s mind.

"Yes, son?" Rohan replied silently.

Angel’s eyes rounded in astonishment. "I can hear you!" he exclaimed excitedly, then asked, "Now, how can I get to Enny?"

Rohan ruffled his hair. Being in the demon world had heightened Rohan’s abilities to the point where he could open a portal connecting to any world, though he didn’t know how long that ability would last, as the demon king once said many demons got stronger at home. Nonetheless, Rohan could still feel the pull and weight of the powers inside him and knew he could use them to send Angel through the portal and keep an eye on him through the vision until he came back with Evenly and her twins.

"Once you get through the portal, stay in touch with me and tell me when you’re ready to come back. I will keep an eye on the castle and keep your senses on alert at every moment. Do you understand?" Rohan asked, looking into his eager son’s eyes. Angel looked thrilled to finally be doing something helpful for his father.

"Papa, if I do a good job, I will do it again," Angel said over his shoulder as he ran into the portal. "I will be back real quick, Mama, to help you with the cookies you want to make for me." The portal closed behind the boy and his voice faded, and Belle watched with her hands clutched against her chest as she couldn’t help but worry.

To someone who didn’t remember anything, this was strange and terrifying, to send a small boy out to do something at all. But she trusted that Rohan wouldn’t have sent him if he believed there was any danger out there that could harm him.

"Don’t worry, my love. Come here, let’s watch him together," he assured her, patting the space beside him on the bed. Belle, too worried and overwhelmed by her fear, walked to him almost blindly, unable to tear her eyes away from where the portal had disappeared.

"Let me set it so we can watch the entire castle to find where he will appear," Rohan said, holding Roseline in one hand and using the other to navigate the vision. He had only connected the portal to the castle, but he wasn’t certain which direction it would take Angel, so he needed to check every angle through the vision to see where the boy would appear.

Meanwhile, far away from the mountainside where the cottage was, things were not as peaceful there as they were here. People were still in shock over their loss, and many were grieving for the death of close ones, especially the vampires who had lost not just many of their people but also their king, who had been melted by lava.

The chaos had gone down, but the ruins left the land desolated, and many humans of Nightbrook who had survived had relocated back to the human land to start afresh, as there was nothing more left in Nightbrook. The elite vampires who had survived wore all black as they stood in the graveyard where the mass burial had been going on for days and where their king’s death ceremony was taking place.

After the burial was over, the only remaining vampire prince held a meeting outside the graveyard, where the vampires lined up in somber rows. The women leaned against their husbands, occasionally dabbing handkerchiefs against their cheeks as they listened to what their prince had to say. Even the royal castle was gone now, leaving them with nowhere else to gather.

They had lost all of their slaves, some to the fire, and others who had run away to the human lands. The entire establishments had burned down to nothing, and even the place where their blood was refined and processed for storage had been destroyed. Many of the vampires were more pained by losing their source of food than by losing a friend, for blood mattered more to a bloodsucker than the neighbor who lived next door.
