Married To The Mad Vampire Lord novel Chapter 519

Chapter 519: The baby girl

Angel dashed down the long stairs that led below, and when running couldn’t take him fast enough, he opened his wings and flew the rest of the way into the underground space. He rushed into the living room to find Evenly struggling to stand, but she was too weakened and ended up falling back down, with the babies already laid on a sheet beside her.

"Enny," Angel called as he hurried to assist her.

Evenly looked down at the boy that held her hand to assist her and asked, "Where is your father, Angel?"

"Sorry Papa didn’t come at the time he said he would. Papa is sick and cannot come, but I am here now, and I will take you to our house." He said it quickly, already knowing she must have felt abandoned in here, and from how weak she looked, he could tell she had been without food and blood.

Evenly, upon hearing his words, sank fully down on the floor as understanding settled inside her. She knew the duke wouldn’t abandon them just like that and that something must have happened. And she couldn’t help but feel so relieved to see Angel now, especially as her daughter was running another fever.

"Papa, I have reached them. Open it now," Angel said through the mind link, and Rohan began to work on the portal.

Evenly reached for her babies, but Angel said, "I will hold one for you."

Evenly looked at the boy, noticing how much he had grown again in just a few days and how mature and gentlemanly he acted. She couldn’t help but smile faintly as she said, "Thank you."

Angel, who was already reaching out to pull off the thick coat his mama had wrapped around him, paused briefly to look at her.

"No thank you, Enny. I have always wanted to be a protector. I will protect you, just like I protect my mama and our Rosey. Mama used to say that family protects each other," he told her, trying to maintain a serious, urgent expression as he removed his coat. He had always carried his mama’s words and teachings far more than anything else, and it didn’t matter that she now didn’t remember teaching him, he still held onto the same values about being there for the people closest to him.

Though he was born to be a creature of darkness, his mother’s light had brightened him even from when he was in her womb, and he allowed that brightness to guide him far more often than the darkness that only surfaced when the people he loved were harmed.

"You are growing up so fast, Angel. I will miss the little boy I used to carry around," Evenly said, her expression a mix of wonderment and gratitude for knowing and being in the life of people like him. 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂

"I am still Angel Maxwell. Nothing’s going to change, Enny," he said with a smile, and she returned it.

Angel sensed that, despite her smile, she was still hurting. He felt the urge to tell her that he would bring back Uncle Rav to make her feel better and ease her heart. But he held the words back. It wasn’t time yet. There were still many things to be done for Rav to return to normal and be around people without harming or eating them. Until then, he could not raise Enny’s hopes, because Angel wasn’t yet certain how he would cure Uncle Rav, he only knew he would.

So instead of speaking that promise or telling her about Rav, he simply smiled and said, "The mountains are cold, Enny. There is so much snow. The babies need to be warm." He removed the coat and laid it down on the ground, reaching first for the baby boy, who was still sleeping, and then for the little girl, who was shivering with a hot temperature and bluish lips that made Angel’s brows pull together.

"Enny... something is wrong with her," he said, not looking away from the small, unfocused eyes of the tiny baby, who was smaller than the other one.

Evenly nodded her head and reached out to take her. "She’s sick. We need to leave to get her medically checked. Let me hold her."

Angel, who could sense the little girl’s energy draining away the way someone’s life slipped when they were close to dying, looked at Enny and said, "Let me hold her. Tie her for me, like how Papa carries Roseline here." He patted his chest, knowing that if they weren’t careful, the baby would be lost to them before they even reached the mountains. Her heartbeat wasn’t beating like the other baby’s.

"Belle..." Evenly whispered softly, gazing into her friend’s hazel eyes as Belle wrapped the blanket around her and guided her closer to the heating stove. It felt like an eternity since she had last seen Belle. To think she had grieved for this friend, her heart breaking at the thought of her death, seeing her now, Evenly was overwhelmed by a flood of emotions.

"You’re... indeed back. Alive," she said, her eyes brimming with tears. Belle, noticing her friend growing emotional, paused and looked at her. She appeared thin and weak, and unable to help herself, and sensing that Evenly needed it, Belle pulled her into a comforting embrace.

"I am sorry for all you have endured, and for the loss of... Rav," she whispered, holding Evenly gently.

Rohan hadn’t actually told her that Rav was still alive in a rogue form because he would have had to explain the things Belle had forgotten and remind her of how she had failed to save Rav as she had promised. Believing Rav was dead now, Belle could only sympathize with Evenly. She must be going through so much, Belle thought, stroking her back.

As if the comfort of another person was all she needed to shatter the fragile walls that had been keeping her strong, Evenly broke into sobs, hugging Belle back with one arm while holding her son with the other.

"I still can’t believe I lost him, Belle. You told me to take the risk of loving him and to give a second chance at a relationship, but I never imagined that what I would lose... was him. Not just myself or my feelings... God, I miss him. I don’t know how I’ll live the rest of my days without him..."

Belle hugged and consoled her silently, running her hand up and down her spine and realizing how much Evenly must be hurting for the loss of Rav. She felt her own heart contract painfully.

"I am sorry..." Belle didn’t know why she felt the need to apologize, but she did. She felt like she had failed at something, and the feeling brought a bad taste to her throat.

It was while they were still hugging that Angel’s panicked voice came as he said, "Mama, Enny, the baby is not opening her eyes again!"
