Chapter 9

At the other end, Victoria’s hand shook as she held the phone, his frigid tone making her tremble.

He knew? He knew everything.

Her heart pounded with fear, but her voice remained steady as she tried to bluff, “Alex, what… what are you talking about? I don’t understand.”

Alexander snorted coldly. “You don’t know? Want me to pull up the records right now?! I’ll make

you pay for every bit of harm Sophia suffered.”

After saying this harshly, he hung up.

Victoria, hearing the dial tone, completely panicked and dropped her phone.

She frantically searched for a way out, knowing Alexander was capable of anything-but then she

remembered the baby growing inside her.

Catherine Sterling would never abandon her own grandchild.

She quickly picked up her phone and called Catherine.

The moment the call connected, she began crying. “Mom, Alexander wants to hurt me because of

Sophia, and he wants to abort the baby.”

Her voice trembled with hurt, tugging at Catherine’s heartstrings.

“Who does Sophia Bennett think she is? This is my grandchild, and I won’t let anyone hurt him-

not even his own father! Victoria, don’t be afraid. I’m coming to protect you right now.’

When Alexander arrived with his men, several bodyguards were already stationed outside

His mother’s people and frowned irritably. “Get rid of them.”

yguards immediately restrained the blocking guards.

Alexander entered unobstructed and found his mother in the living room comforting a tearful

Victoria.

Seeing him enter, Catherine spoke disapprovingly, Victoria is already our daughter-in-law. Don’t even think about hurting her!”

She waved for bodyguards to block his path.

Seeing Victoria playing the victim while using his mother as a shield, veins bulged on Alexander’s forehead. Still, he tried to remain calm. “Mom, don’t interfere in this.”

Catherine was immediately angered. “What do you mean don’t interfere? This is my

daughter-in-law and my grandchild. Over my dead body will I let that bitch Sophia Bennett hurt

them!

This directly enraged Alexander. He roared, “Enough! She’s the woman I love. Even you can’t talk about her like that, Mom!”

After saying this, he stepped back and coldly ordered, “Escort my mother and these obstructions

outside.”

The bodyguards obeyed, directly removing everyone from the house.

Catherine, infuriated by his disregard for everything, turned red with anger.

As she was forcibly removed, she shouted, “Alexander Sterling, I’m your mother! If you dare do

anything to my grandchild, I won’t forgive you!”

As the door closed, Catherine’s curses were shut outside.

Only Alexander and Victoria remained inside.

Victoria had stopped crying, her face full of terror as she cowered in the sofa corner, watching him

warily.

Alexander approached step by step, his eyes devoid of warmth. “Victoria, I warned you not to

provoke Sophia. You could have peacefully been Mrs. Sterling, but you insisted on recklessly provoking her!”

As he drew closer, Victoria’s panic nearly overflowed-with her only protector driven outside by

Alexander, she felt like prey exposed to a hungry wolf, vulnerable to being killed at any moment.

She released the pillow she’d been clutching and threw herself at his feet, pitifully pleading:

“I’m sorry, Alex. I was just confused. I didn’t mean to hurt her-I just wanted you so badly. Alex, I know I was wrong. Please forgive me, okay?”

She cried beautifully, trying to show her most pitiable side, hoping he’d let her off like before.

But this time it didn’t work. Alexander despised her and himself.

If not for her appearance, why would Sophia have left him?

Alexander seized her chin, his dark eyes locked on hers, his voice ice-cold. “Because of you, Sophia

left me. I wish you could die a thousand deaths, and you want me to forgive you?”

He used no restraint-soon Victoria’s cheeks showed bruises.

Under such a gaze, Victoria’s eyes filled with terror. She grasped at her last lifeline. “No, the baby- there’s still the baby. Alex, I’m carrying your child. le’s your child-you can’t abandon him.”

Her eyes pleaded as she looked into his, hoping to see some emotion, but found only unchanging coldness with no trace of their former tenderness.

“The baby? You think I care? As long as it’s not Sophia’s child, it means nothing to me.”
