Chapter 98: Photo
(Aurora’s POV)
I got home late, dropped my bag by the door, and kicked off my shoes.
My phone lit up on the kitchen counter. I picked it up without thinking.
It was a message from Eleanor.

*Aurora, dear – I hope you don’t mind me asking a small favor. I came across a photo earlier and I’m trying to identify the woman in it. If you happen to see anyone matching this description around the company, would you let me know? She seems to be someone Phineas knows.*
Below the message was an image.
I opened it.
A blurry shot. Two figures, backs to the camera, walking side by side through what was clearly a gallery atrium. One tall, broad-shouldered, unmistakably Phineas.
The other one small, dark-haired, wearing the gray coat I’d put on this morning.
I stood there in my hallway, still holding my phone, and stared at the photo of myself.
Eleanor’s message sat beneath it, patient and warm: *If you happen to see anyone matching this description around the company, would you let me know? She seems to be someone Phineas knows.*
She had no idea she was asking me to identify myself.
I ran through every possible response in my head. *That’s me, actually, and Phineas and I have been-* No. Too much, too fast, and it would raise a hundred questions I wasn’t ready to answer. *I don’t recognize her.* A flat lie, and Eleanor was sharp enough that a lie might do more damage than the truth. *I’ll look into it.* Vague enough to buy time, but it felt like stalling.
Eleanor sent another message before I’d made up my mind.
*I don’t mean to pry, dear. I just noticed something different about him lately and I’m curious. You know how he is – he never says a word about anything personal.*
I exhaled slowly.
*I received the photo,* I typed back. *I’ll keep an eye out and let you know if I come across

“You married his older brother. His family is still processing that. His mother hates the idea. His company is struggling. And if you go through with this, every social circle we move in will be talking about it for years.” He set the pen down. “The Rathbone name will be attached to this story for a very long time.”
The confidence in her face flickered.
“He’s the only person who’s been there for me,” she said. “Since Edmund died, Jasper has been-”
“I’m not asking whether he cares about you. I’m asking whether you’ve thought about the cost.” Stefan looked at her steadily. “For the family. For yourself. Think about it before you make it irreversible.”
Sienna didn’t answer.
