Chapter 14: The Mistress Scandal
(Author’s POV)

Jasper was jerked awake by the harsh ringing of his phone. The digital clock read 5:00 AM. His heart hammered against his ribs. Only a catastrophic business crisis would warrant a call at this hour.
He grabbed the device. It was his PR Director, his voice trembling.
“Mr. Everett, you need to check X. Now.”
“What is it?” Jasper demanded, sitting up.
“It’s a bribery scandal involving Miss Rosalind’s preschool. The hashtags #Everett Entitlement and #StJudesCorruption have been trending all night.”
Jasper swiped open his tablet. Sleep was instantly replaced by cold fury.
The internet was ruthless. Someone had leaked an audio recording of Sienna at the school. Her voice, shrill and arrogant, echoed through the device speakers.
*“My time is billed by the minute… Everett family funding…
“*
Jasper clenched his jaw until it ached. Sienna had no idea she had messed with the wrong people. The comment section was a bloodbath. The public was tearing them apart.
Sharp–eared commenters had identified the woman not as his wife, but as the “other
woman.”
*“That’s not the wife. That sounds like a homewrecker trying to play mommy,”* one top comment read with thousands of likes.
*“Look at how she raises that kid. Total trash. #Gold Digger.“*
They weren’t just attacking the Everett name. They were stripping Sienna naked and shaming her in the town square.
Breakfast was a funeral affair.
When Sienna came downstairs in her silk robe, eyes red and puffy, she found Jasper and his mother, Victoria, sitting in a silence so heavy it felt like lead.
Jasper looked exhausted. His blue eyes were cold. Victoria didn’t bother hiding her disdain.
“I… I was just trying to help,” Sienna stammered, her eyes widening in feigned innocence as

she took her seat.

“Help?” Victoria snapped. She slammed her coffee cup onto the saucer. “You threatened to buy a library in exchange for special treatment, and you let yourself get recorded? The father of the child Rosalind bullied is a Federal Judge, Sienna!”
Sienna flinched.
“The school is facing an inquiry from the Board of Trustees,” Victoria continued, her voice icy. “We are looking at potential lawsuits because of your stupidity.”
“I didn’t know…” Sienna whispered.
“And Rosalind?” Victoria asked. “Locking herself in her room? Refusing to eat because she
saw comments on an iPad? You are failing her.”
Sienna immediately turned on the waterworks. Tears streamed down her perfect face.
“I’m so sorry, Jasper,” she sobbed. “I just love Rosie so much. I couldn’t stand seeing her upset…”
Jasper, seeing her tears, felt his resolve weaken. He sighed, rubbing his temples.
“It’s okay,” he muttered. “We’ll fix it.”
Victoria watched the scene with narrowed eyes. She took a sip of her black coffee. Her mind drifted to her former daughter–in–law.
She didn’t miss Aurora’s “obedience.” She missed her competence.
If this were Aurora, the situation would have been handled quietly, efficiently, and without a single headline. Aurora never made noise; she simply produced results. Unlike this weeping mess in front of her, Aurora had class.
Although the PR team managed to scrub the worst of the trending topics for a small fortune, the damage was done. Jasper had to personally go and apologize to the Federal Judge.
The reality of their standing was harsh. While wealthy, Jasper’s family was a cadet branch of the massive Everett dynasty. They were descendants of a half–brother, technically cut off from the main family trust and the true seat of power. They lacked the deep–rooted protection of the Patriarch.
“Use your Rathbone connections,” Victoria suggested sharply. “Reach out to the Main Family for damage control.”
Desperate to prove her worth, Sienna retreated to her room and called Serena, Phineas

Everett’s niece.
“Serena, darling.” Sienna cooed into the phone. “I was hoping we could arrange a dinner? Perhaps with your Uncle Phineas?”
Serena laughed nervously on the other end.

“Sienna, you know Uncle Phineas and Grandfather don’t associate with your branch. If I try to set up a dinner, Phineas might actually kill me.”
Sienna bit her lip, humiliated. Her knuckles turned white around the phone.
“But,” Serena added, “I can get you tickets to the charity gala this weekend. Uncle Phineas will be there. You can try your luck.”
Sienna agreed instantly. “Thank you, Serena.”
She hung up and looked at herself in the mirror. Her confidence surged back.
*This* was the difference between her and Aurora. Aurora would never have access to this world. Sienna smiled, convincing herself that she held the winning hand.
(Aurora’s POV)
I received the official offer letter from Everett Global’s HR department at noon.
No second interview needed. I was hired effective immediately.
A rare smile touched my lips. I pulled out my phone and texted Olivia: *Step one complete. Next step: Divorce papers.*
On my way to the hospital, I stopped at a high–end patisserie. I bought a box of artisanal cupcakes, the frosting swirled into perfect peaks.
When I entered the VIP ward, the atmosphere was thick. My mother, Martha, was there. She looked as sour as ever, flipping through a magazine.
“Finally decided to show up?” Martha sneered. She didn’t bother looking up. “I thought you were too busy destroying your marriage to care about your dying brother.”
In the past, I would have lowered my head. I would have apologized.
Today, I didn’t even blink.
“Always a pleasure, Mother,” I said with a bright, terrifyingly empty smile. “You look as warm and welcoming as ever. I brought cupcakes–try not to choke on the sweetness.”

Martha gaped at me. She was stunned into silence by the sudden backbone.

Leo, suppressing a laugh from his bed, quickly intervened. “Mom, I’m craving a frappuccino. Can you go down to the Starbucks in the lobby?”
Martha huffed, glared at me one last time, and grabbed her purse.
