Chapter 208: Cooling Down
(Author’s POV)
The last guest had barely cleared the venue before Sienna started tearing the dresses apart.
She went through them one by one – the ceremony gown, the reception dress, the backup she’d never even
worn. Her fingers found the seams and pulled. Pearl buttons scattered across the floor like spilled rice.
Lace came away in strips. The sound of fabric ripping filled the dressing room until there was nothing left
to destroy.
Then she stood in the middle of it all, breathing hard, and looked at Jasper.
“You did this,” she said. “You and her. You handed her a front–row seat to my humiliation and you just
stood there.”
Jasper sat on the edge of the vanity bench, his jacket off, his tie loosened. He looked like a man who had been awake for three days.
“I stood at the altar,” he said. “That’s what I did.”
“Don’t play dumb with me. You knew he was going to bring her. You had to have known.”
“I didn’t know.”
“Then you should have.” Her voice cracked. “You should have made sure. You should have done
something.”
Victoria, who had been standing near the door with her arms folded, had heard enough.
“Sienna.” Her voice was flat and cold. “Stop.”
Sienna turned on her. “Don’t-”
“You want to talk about who ruined what?” Victoria didn’t raise her voice. She didn’t need to. “You walked into a marriage that wasn’t yours to walk into. Aurora was his wife. You knew that. You made your choices, and now you’re standing in a pile of torn dresses blaming my son for the consequences.” She paused. “You don’t get to do that. Not in front of me.”
Sienna stared at her.
“I stand with Jasper,” Victoria said. “That’s where I’ve always stood. That’s where I’ll always stand.” She
reached over and touched Jasper’s arm. “Come on. Let’s go.”
Jasper stood. He looked at Sienna once the look of a man who had nothing left to give, not even anger
“We both need a few days to cool down,” he said. “That’s all I’ve got right now.”
He walked out
Victoria followed without a backward glance. At the door, she stopped just long enough to say, “Everything

you’ve brought to this family has been a disaster,” and then she was gone too.
Sienna stood alone in the wreckage of her wedding night. The door clicked shut. She didn’t move for a
long moment.
Then she sat down on the floor, in the middle of the torn lace and scattered pearls, and cried.
She was still crying when Sebastian found her.
He’d come because Richard sent him. He took one look at his sister’s face – mascara tracked down her cheeks, hair half–undone, surrounded by shredded fabric – and his jaw went tight.
“Did he do this to you?”
“He left,” she said. “He just left.”
Sebastian’s expression darkened. He was still standing there, working himself up to something, when
Richard came through the door and quietly closed it behind him.
“Out,” Richard said to Sebastian.
“Dad-”
“I said out.”
Sebastian looked at Sienna once more, then left.
Richard pulled a chair over and sat down across from his daughter. He didn’t speak immediately. He
looked at the mess on the floor, at the state of her, and then he laced his fingers together and leaned
forward.
“Sienna.” His voice was low. “What are you doing?”
“He left me on our wedding night-”
“I know what he did. I’m asking what you’re doing.” He held her gaze. “You’re in here screaming about divorce. On your wedding night. Do you understand what that looks like?”
“I don’t care what it looks like.”
“You should.” He wasn’t harsh, but he wasn’t gentle either. “You fought for this man. You made choices to
get here that you cannot take back. And now, the first time something goes wrong, you want to throw the
whole thing away?” He shook his head. “Think about what you’re saying. You walk out of this marriage
now, you become the woman who couldn’t hold it together for a single day. Is that what you want?”
Sienna wiped her face with the back of her hand. “He still loves her.”
Richard’s expression shifted. Something complicated moved behind his eyes, and he didn’t answer right
away.
He couldn’t. Because the truth was that this relationship had started the way it started, and he had no clean ground to stand on when it came to pointing fingers about what was fair.

“Then make him stop,” he said finally. “That’s the work of a marriage. It doesn’t happen in one night.” He sat back. “You cool down. He cools down. And then you do the work. That’s your only real option here.”
Sienna’s crying had slowed. She stared at the floor.
He was right, and she knew it. Divorce was a word she’d thrown out because she was furious and
humiliated, not because she meant it. She didn’t want out of the marriage. She wanted the version of this evening that should have happened – the one where she was the only woman in the room, where Jasper’s eyes never drifted, where no one from his past walked in to remind everyone of what she’d replaced.
What she couldn’t swallow was the image of Jasper walking away from her in front of everyone. That
wasn’t just a fight. That was a public statement, and it would leave a mark.
