Chapter 35 The Cold Shoulder-

Chapter 35: The Cold Shoulder-1

(Aurora’s POV)

Professor Walsh froze in the doorway. The shock on his face lingered for a moment before hardening into a mask of cold fury. His eyes, usually warm when looking at data, were now filled with a severe, piercing light.

“What are you doing here?” His voice was hard as granite. “I seem to recall telling you years ago that if you chose to walk away from this life, you should never come back to see me.”

Lewis stepped forward, raising his hands in a placating gesture. “Henry, don’t be so harsh. Aurora is here to see me. This is my office, after all…”

Walsh didn’t hear a word of it. He let out a sharp, dismissive huff and grabbed his tweed coat from

the rack.

“If you called me here just to reminisce about wasted potential, you are wasting my time,” he

snapped, turning toward the door.

I’m leaving.”

I couldn’t let him go. Not like this.

I rushed forward, my hand closing gently but firmly around his arm. “Professor, please. Just wait.”

He didn’t turn around. His back remained rigid, radiating disappointment. “What is there to say?” His voice dripped with stinging sarcasm. “Did you come to regale me with tales of your perfect life as a wealthy housewife? Or perhaps you want to tell me how right you

were to ignore every piece of advice I gave you so you could marry that… that Jasper?”

My throat tightened. A bitter fog rose in my eyes, blurring my vision.

“I was stupid,” I admitted, my voice low but steady. “I was naive.”

I let go of his arm and straightened my spine. I walked around to face him, forcing myself to meet his angry gaze. “Professor, I wasted your training. I let you down. I am sorry.”

Walsh’s feet, which had been poised to march out the door, seemed nailed to the floor. The raw honesty in my voice halted him.

Lev is sighed loudly. He walked over, grabbed Walsh by the shoulders, and practically shoved him into the leather armchair. He then pointed at the sofa for me.

“Enough drama,” Lewis grumbled. “Sit down. Both of you. Let’s talk like adults.”

The air in the room was heavy, thick with unsaid words. Lewis reached for the tablet on the desk to explain, but I beat him to it.

I picked up the device, my fingers flying over the screen to bring up the core data model I had been working on. I thrust it into Professor Walsh’s hands.

“Look at this,” I said simply.

Walsh looked like he wanted to throw the tablet across the room. Reluctantly, his eyes dropped to the screen.

Silence stretched for a minute. Then two.

As he scanned the complex gene sequencing charts, the anger in his eyes began to dissipate, replaced by a flicker of grudging approval. But he wasn’t ready to yield completely.

“Hmph,” he grunted, tossing the tablet onto the desk. “A simple gene sequence patent. What’s so difficult about that?”

“Oh, come off it, Henry,” Lewis scoffed, leaning against his desk. “Not difficult? Your doctoral students haven’t cracked that code in two years.”

Lewis lowered his voice, his tone shifting to something more serious. ”

Walsh’s head snapped up. The mask of indifference cracked wide open. “Divorce? Did that bastard

Jasper file against you?”

I shook my head. “No. I did. The marriage was a mistake. That man… he wasn’t worth it.”

I took a breath and told him everything. I kept my voice calm as I recounted the years of neglect, the emotional isolation. But when I spoke of the miscarriage-being left alone in that cold hospital room while Jasper was with Sienna-Wal

He slammed his hand onto the desk with a violence that made the lamp rattle. His face turned a dangerous shade of crimson.

“That son of a bitch!” he roared. “Jasper dared to treat my student like that?”

Lewis’s face darkened as well. “Don’t worry. We will handle this. Aether Life Sciences is scheduled to meet with me the day after tomorrow. I’ll have my assistant cancel it immediately.”

Walsh wasn’t satisfied with just business revenge. “What about the lawsuit? When is the court

date?”

“The docket is full,” I said. “It’s moving slowly.”

Walsh immediately pulled out his phone. He dialed a number, his fingers stabbing the screen.

“George? It’s Henry Walsh. Yes, I’m fine. Listen, I have a divorce case I need you to look into. Yes…

Everett vs. Everett. No, the wife is my student. I don’t care who the husband is. I want to make sure

there are no delays. Don’t let that family pull any strings.”

He hung up, still muttering curses.

Lewis smiled at me. “See? He barks, but he’s already clearing the path for you.”

Chapter 35: The Cold Shoulder-2

Warmth flooded my chest. I looked at Lewis with gratitude. Without the courage to face this.

Walsh looked at me then. The blame was gone, replaced by a deep, aching sorrow.

“I wasn’t just angry that you left, Aurora,” he said, his voice raspy. “I was angry because you took the brightest mind I had ever taught and let a mediocre man bury it. Don’t you dare waste your gift again.”

My eyes burned. I blinked hard, refusing to let the tears fall. “I won’t, Professor. I’m going to take back everything that belongs to me. With interest.”

“Aurora has always been your soft spot,” Lewis said gently. “Now that she’s back, let it go.” He paused, then added pragmatically, “Though, to be fair, Everett Global has the best labs in the world right now. Her resources there are better than what we can offer.”

Walsh sighed, the fight draining out of him. “I won’t speak out of anger anymore. Everett Global is powerful. You will do well there.”

He leaned forward, his eyes locking onto mine. “Just remember to come back and visit. I said those harsh things years ago because I looked at you like a daughter. I couldn’t stand seeing you

throw your future away for a man who didn’t cherish you.”

He pointed a finger at the desk. “Remember this: no matter what happens out there, this place is always your shield.”

The dam broke. I covered my mouth, tears streaming down my face.

(Sienna’s POV)

Monday arrived, and I dressed for war. I wore a limited-edition couture suit, grabbed my oversized sunglasses, and headed to the university. My goal was simple: charm the eccentric Professor

Lewis and secure that patent for Jasper.

Reality, however, was less accommodating.

The heat was oppressive, ninety degrees in the shade, and I didn’t even make it past the foyer of the research building.

A young man in a lab coat-Zack, I think his name was-stood in the doorway, blocking my path with a polite, plastic smile.

“I’m sorry, ma’am,” he said. “Professor Lewis is extremely busy. He isn’t seeing guests.”
