Marry Ex's Billionaire Uncle After Divorce (Aurora and Jasper) novel Chapter 9

Chapter 9: I Will Divorce

(Aurora’s POV)

I sat on the edge of the kingsized bed in the hotel suite, staring at the skyline. It felt cold, impersonal.

Aurora, pack your bags,Olivia said, pacing the room. She looked out the window nervously. “This security is a joke. It won’t stop the paparazzi, and it certainly won’t stop Jasper’s people.

She grabbed my hand. Her grip was tight, grounding.

You need a fortress,” she insisted. Move into my penthouse downtown. It has twentyfourhour security, a private elevator, and a concierge who knows how to keep his mouth shut. My family doctor can see you there.

I looked at my reflection in the mirror. Pale skin, hollow eyes. I looked like a ghost.

Olivia was right. I was too weak to fight a war on open ground.

Okay,I whispered. Let’s go.”

Once settled in Olivia’s guest room, I opened my laptop. I needed to know exactly where I

stood.

I pulled up my accounts. For five years, I had been a beneficiary of the Everett family trust and a board member of Aether Life Sciences. The numbers on the screen were comforting. Millions in accumulated dividends and trust payouts.

It was enough. It was enough to cover Leo’s chemotherapy and bone marrow transplant ten

times over.

I closed my eyes, thinking of the prenuptial agreement. I would get a settlement.

Then, my thoughts drifted to Rosalind.

A sharp pain pierced my chest. I remembered the way she looked at methe hatred, the shove. Sienna had twisted her mind so thoroughly.

Tears pricked my eyes, but I forced them back. I couldn’t take her with me. Not yet. I was broken, physically and emotionally. If I tried to fight for custody now, Jasper’s lawyers would crush me. I would lose her forever.

I had to leave. I had to rebuild myself. Only when I was strong enough could I come back and

save her from that toxic house.

I can’t save someone who doesn’t want to be saved. Not today.

By afternoon, I managed to pull myself together. I took a car to the hospital.

I met with the hospital’s financial advisor first. I set up an irrevocable thirdparty medical trust for Leo. No matter what happened to me, or my marriage, his treatment funding would be untouchable.

I walked into Leo’s room. He lit up when he saw me.

Sis!He tried to sit up, but he looked frail.

He frowned, studying my face. You look terrible. Are you okay?

Just work stress,I lied, forcing a smile. I couldn’t tell him about the baby. Big project at the

lab.

Suddenly, the door banged open.

Martha stormed in. She didn’t even look at Leo. She marched straight up to me, her face

twisted in a snarl.

You vicious little snake!she screamed. How dare you push Sienna down the stairs?

She raised her hand, aiming a slap at my face.

I didn’t flinch. I caught her wrist in midair.

1 squeezed hard. Martha gasped, her eyes widening in shock.

Don’t,” I said, my voice icecold. “Don’t you ever touch me again.

Mom!Leo shouted, struggling to sit up. What are you doing? Leave her alone!

I shoved her hand away.

I didn’t push her,I said calmly. “And I am divorcing Jasper.

The room went silent.

Martha’s jaw dropped. But the shock on her face wasn’t concern. It was panic.

Divorce?she shrieked. Are you insane? Who is going to pay for Leo’s treatment? You selfish girl, are you trying to kill your brother?

A chill went through my bones. She didn’t care about my marriage. She didn’t care about the abuse. She only cared about the Everett wallet.

I will pay for it,I said, staring her down. “I have my own money. And if you ever side with an outsider against me again, I will cut you off completely. You won’t see a dime.

I turned and walked out.

Aurora! Come back here!Martha yelled. As long as there’s money, that’s what matters!

Behind me, I heard Leo shouting at her, defending me. I kept walking.

(Sienna’s POV)

I adjusted the custom fiberglass brace on my arm as the limousine pulled up to the Everett estate. It was light, expensive, and made me look delightfully fragile.

The maids rushed to open the door.

Auntie Sienna!

Rosalind came running down the hall. Tears were streaming down her face. She threw her arms around my waist, burying her face in my dress.

Mommy is a bad person!she wailed. She hurt you! I hate her!

She looked up at Jasper, who was standing by the stairs.

Daddy, please divorce that bad woman!Rosalind begged. Make Auntie Sienna my new mommy!

Jasper’s expression darkened. He looked tired.

Rosalind, stop it,” he snapped, his voice sharp. Don’t talk nonsense.

He didn’t look at me. He turned away. I have a video conference with the European branch. Do not disturb me.

He walked into his study and shut the door.

I swallowed my annoyance. He was avoiding the subject. He was avoiding me.

I smiled down at Rosalind. It’s okay, sweetie. Don’t cry.

I sent her off with the nanny and walked upstairs. The door to the master bedroom was ajar.
