Chapter 613: The Thorn Has Finally Been Taken Care Of

A full minute passed as everyone opened their eyes. Breaking the impending silence, Chris finally spoke, "Thank you. Now, we will begin the funeral procession." As soon as he finished, two members of the keeper’s unit came and unlocked the coffin lid. Jacob stood to the side as everyone present formed a line and, one by one, offered carnations to the deceased and words of condolence to his only family, Jacob.

The first ones to step up were the four vampire elders.

With neatly manicured hands, Catherine picked up a delicate white carnation and placed it at Fabian’s chest, her fingers brushing against the back of his hand. Then she removed her hoodie and looked at Jacob. Placing her hand on her heart, she said, "Mr. Larson, I am so sorry for your loss." Then she glanced briefly at Fabian’s face and added, "We may have had differences of opinion; nevertheless, he was~ ... indeed a wonderful human." A sorrowful smile tugged at the corner of her lips as the word ’human’ sounded a lot more deliberate. "I will pray for his soul to rest in peace."

Jacob gazed at her, his shoulders slightly slumped, as if he had been defeated. He just nodded at her as she stepped back, wiping a nonexistent tear off her cheek. Seeing Jacob in such a state, she was elated, but she kept her composure.

Next, Brian walked towards the flower casket, his steps deliberate. He stared down at Fabian’s pale face and had a hard time hiding the glee in his eyes. ’The thorn that had been pricking us since forever has finally been taken out, once and for all. Now~ ... it is only a matter of time before everything falls back to how it should have been. Mutt~ .... go to hell and never come back. There is no place left for you.’ He scoffed inwardly.

Taking a deep breath, he masked his face with a solemn expression, pulled the hood of his cape and turned to Jacob. "Chairman Larson, my condolences. This sudden loss deeply saddens me, going at such a young age. He was such a bright and obedient child." His voice came out scratchy. He was really dedicated to the act. After all, there was a whole audience, so how could he not?

Jacob still didn’t say anything and just nodded at his words. The ever-flawless face looked haggard.

Silvia went next, her eyes slightly red. Before picking out the flower, unlike the others, she pulled off her hoodie to show her respect. She had worked with Fabian, though briefly, and knew how good a person he was. She was genuinely disheartened to see him lying there, lifeless. Vinicio followed after.

Then, one after another, people began expressing their sympathy as they gave their final offerings to Fabian- Larson Group’s business partners, his Red Stone colleagues, the Clan Leaders; even after such short notice, most of them were in attendance.

Some of them were there as they actually wanted to be there; some wanted to keep up appearances, while the remaining didn’t wanted to offend the Vampire King.

Finally, the Everests brothers stepped forward. Brave went first. Throughout the offering, his expression remained neutral, but inwardly, he and Raw were both really bothered.

He had been quietly observing each person in the room, trying to figure out who the culprit might be. The brothers were damn sure that Fabian’s death wasn’t as simple as it looked. Fabian dying, then Shaun- there was someone behind all this mess. His initial thought drifted to Elder Richards and Tape.

After all, they had a solid reason to harm Fabian. They wanted the Vampire King’s throne, and Fabian was Jacob’s direct descendant. Plus, those two were the ones who strongly objected to him as the successor. But, so far, neither of the two had acted strangely even once. Either they were very good at pretending, or they had nothing to do with it.

He retrieved his hand as well as his thoughts and spoke, "Chairman Larson~ ...." He sighed. "Though Fabian and I weren’t that close, he sure was someone admirable; he will be missed by everyone who knew him."
