Kaelen POV
"Should we kill him now?"
The moment the question left my mouth, Darius stepped forward. His eyes burned with a dark, predatory light, and a low growl rumbled deep in his chest.
"That would be far too easy," he said coldly. "How else am I supposed to vent my own frustration unless he spends hours begging for death first?"
"We still have the guards," I pointed out, casting a sideways glance toward Isaac and the others.
The instant my gaze swept over them, every guard in the room stiffened. Their backs straightened instinctively, and not a single one of them dared to meet my eyes.
"The more, the merrier, I suppose," Darius muttered, his jaw tightening.
Satisfied, I finally lowered the gun and turned my attention to Nala.
"I’m sure you’ve had enough excitement for one night," I said, a subtle edge creeping into my voice. Deep down, I blamed her for encouraging this entire outing in the first place. However, considering who she was, I couldn’t exactly voice that frustration outright. "You should return to the estate. For your own safety."
I could tell from the tight line of her mouth that she wanted to throw one of her usual sharp remarks back at me.
Surprisingly, she didn’t.
Perhaps because a rare flicker of guilt lingered behind those golden eyes, she simply released a quiet sigh. Without another word, she turned on her heel and walked out of the basement, her blind guard falling silently into step behind her.
Once she disappeared from sight, I turned back to Darius and placed the handgun into his waiting hand.
"You can finish this back at the estate," I said quietly. "I won’t be returning until tomorrow."
The moment those words left my mouth, Darius froze.
His eyes snapped to mine, and understanding settled over his face almost immediately.
After all, a woman was in heat, and there was only one way of easing her suffering.
Naturally, I would be spending the night with her.
It would likely take hours.
Very long hours.
And just the thought of it was enough to make the corner of my lips curl into the faintest smirk.
Ignoring the dangerous flare in Darius’s eyes, I turned on my heel, looked directly at Isaac, and gave a single order.
"Take me to her."
Isaac nodded quickly and led the way through the club’s dim, pulsing corridors. The music still pounded through the walls, but it felt distant and muffled, as though I were moving through a dream instead of reality.
We stopped in front of a private suite at the end of the hall, where the other guard, Paul, stood watch outside the door.
Suddenly, I paused as my gaze landed on his shirt, which was rumpled, and his collar had been pulled loose.
But what really made my jaw clench until it ached was her scent clinging heavily to the fabric of his jacket.
The moment he saw me, he immediately lowered his head.
"Alpha."
For a moment longer than necessary, I just stared at him.
