Mated to the Alpha: Sold to the King novel Chapter 150

Chapter 150: 0150

Kaelen POV

Despite my outburst and the crushing aura of rage filling the office, Raven’s expression barely changed. Her piercing blue eyes remained locked on mine without the slightest hint of fear.

"I’m not accusing you, Alpha," she said calmly. "I’m simply telling you what the evidence says. I know it’s a lot to hear, and I understand why you’re angry. That’s exactly why I came to you instead of investigating behind your back."

She held my gaze.

"I need an explanation."

Another growl rose in my throat as my wolf slammed against the restraints I’d forced around him, desperate to tear her apart for even suggesting I was involved.

I slowly drew in a deep breath.

Then another.

When I finally spoke again, my voice was cold and controlled.

"Innocent women are being trafficked. That’s already a tragedy on its own, and I respect the amount of work you’ve put into uncovering it." I paused, making sure every word carried its full weight. "But I swear to you, I have absolutely nothing to do with this. If my word isn’t enough, then you’re free to investigate this estate yourself."

That was the greatest courtesy I could extend to anyone.

Not because she had accused me.

But because I respected her reputation enough to give her the chance to prove herself wrong.

At my response, the tension in her shoulders finally eased. She ran a hand through her brown hair and let out a long, exhausted sigh.

For the first time since she’d entered my office, she looked defeated.

Seeing that, I lowered my guard ever so slightly.

"You can stay here for a few days if you need to," I said. "I heard you didn’t come alone. Both of you will be treated as honored guests. I’ll also make whatever resources you need available and give you full access to the estate. If women are disappearing, then this isn’t something I can afford to ignore."

"Thank you," she said quietly, giving me a respectful bow. "If you’ll excuse me, I’ll go let my partner know it’s safe to come inside."

"Go ahead," I replied with a single nod, though my hands remained tightly clenched at my sides.

She turned and walked toward the heavy door.

The moment she did, I let out a frustrated sigh and sank back into my leather chair. I deliberately filled my thoughts with Ella, hoping the memory of her scent would calm my restless wolf enough for me to think straight.

I watched Raven reach for the handle and pull the door open, but the very second she stepped into the hallway, she stopped dead in her tracks.

"Raven...?" Ella’s soft, familiar voice drifted into the office.

Almost instinctively, I was on my feet before I even realized I’d moved, assuming she had come looking for me.

What I failed to fully process was the fact that she had just called this woman by her first name.

Maybe it was because, even though Raven Reed wasn’t someone an ordinary wolf would casually know, she wasn’t famous to the public. But her name still carried enough weight that anyone who recognized it usually knew exactly who she was.

"Lorelei...?" Raven breathed, and all the calm composure she had maintained throughout our meeting disappeared in an instant. "What are you doing here?"

This time, I frowned.

Lorelei?

Before Raven could say another word, Ella rushed forward and threw her arms around her, hugging her so tightly it was almost desperate. She buried her face against Raven’s shoulder as quiet sobs shook her body.

I stood there, completely frozen.

They knew each other?

How?

None of this made any sense.

If anything, they should’ve been on opposite sides. Raven hunted criminal organizations for a living, while Ella was a rogue thief.
