Chapter 27: 0027

Lorelei POV

Was he going through heat? That was my first thought.

These were all the symptoms of a wolf in heat. Or worse, he had been drugged.

Either way, I should not be here.

Though I had never seen the Alpha King before, everything about his presence screamed exactly who he was. And why else would he be entering a chamber like this?

I swallowed hard, though there was nothing in my throat, as he yanked the ruined fabric of his shirt off his shoulder, revealing a perfectly sculpted chest.

Oh goodness.

Was he really going to undress in front of me?

The more I thought about it, the more I panicked. My mind raced through every possible way to escape this situation, but before I could settle on a single one, his head suddenly snapped toward me.

The second his eyes met mine, a loud growl rumbled from his chest.

Then he started walking toward me.

"I’m so sorry," I blurted immediately, panic surging through me as I forced my legs, which suddenly felt like jelly, to move out of his way.

But he was too fast.

Before I could even take a full step, his hand shot out and gripped my shoulder. A startled gasp escaped me as he slammed me against the wall, pinning me in place.

The impact knocked the breath from my lungs.

His head dropped into the crook of my neck, and he began aggressively scenting my skin.

My entire body froze.

His pheromones were stronger now, thick and intoxicating. With him this close, my vision blurred at the edges.

Cold sweat broke out across my forehead while a strange, terrifying heat curled low in my stomach.

The sheer power radiating from him was suffocating.

It pressed in from every direction, threatening to overwhelm my senses completely.

My legs felt like they would give out at any second.

I pressed my palms flat against the wall behind me, desperately trying to ground myself as his chest rose and fell against mine.

I was completely trapped between his massive, rigid frame and the cold stone wall.

Completely at the mercy of the most ruthless man in the werewolf world.

"Who are you?" he growled, his voice thick with anger.

"I’m just a maid," I answered immediately, my voice trembling as I spoke, and his jaw tightened.

"How dare you enter my chambers without permission?" he snarled.

"I... I..." I did not get to finish before his grip shifted from my shoulder to my waist, his large, burning hand pulling me flush against his overheated body.

A startled gasp escaped my lips as the contact sent a jolt of electricity racing through my veins.

He was not just angry anymore. The wild, drug-fueled haze had completely taken over his features. His amber eyes darkened to near black, pupils blown wide as he stared down at my mouth.

"You lie," he rasped, his breath so hot it felt like it was scorching my skin. "No servant smells like this."

Smells like what? I thought.

I did not have a scent. My wolf was suppressed.

So what the hell did he mean by that?

My thoughts were cut off when he buried his face in the crook of my neck and took a deep, shuddering inhale, as though trying to breathe me in completely.

My body was not helping either.

I found myself arching into him without meaning to, and a soft, broken whimper slipped from my lips.

At this rate, I was going to sign my own death sentence if I did not get myself together.

"L... let me go," I choked out, tears filling my eyes as I pressed my hands against his bare chest and tried to push him away.

But it was like trying to move a mountain.

Not only because he was far stronger than me, but because my limbs only grew weaker the longer his scent overwhelmed my senses.

Yep.
