MATED TO THE VAMPIRE KING SON novel Chapter 67

Chapter 67

Freda’s POV

Having the breeze on my face brought freshness to my body. Who

knew taking a walk and talking could cheer me up?

Damien was sweet, and each time I thought about just how sweet he

was, there was this gnawing feeling at the pit of my stomach. I tried

not to pay attention to it, or my plans to escape would crumble.

If I leave, will I ever come back? I asked myself as we made our way

back to the castle. I searched for the answer deep within me, and just

when I thought I’d found it, my thoughts were disturbed by the

cheerful sound of Christie’s voice. I looked up to see her coming

toward us, and I smiled.

Ah, perfect timing. See Freda back to the chambers,Damien said.

I looked up at him. Alone?Wasn’t he coming with me? The

confusion was evident on my face, and he smiled, rubbing my cheek

for a moment.

I shall join you shortly. I have wounds I need to attend to. Since

Christie is here, let her accompany you on the walk back. I won’t take

too long with the other affairs I need to handle.

He smiled sweetly at me, and I couldn’t stop my cheeks from flushing.

I was even more embarrassed because Christie could see how affected

I was by him.

Okay,I said.

He dropped his hand. Giving me one last tender look, he turned and

walked away.

Your Highness,Christie said with a bow as he passed her.

Come.I stretched my hand toward her. She took it, smiling like a

child who’d just received her first candy. I was happy she liked me as

much as I liked her. It reminded me of my best friend. Thinking of it,

Christie had filled my thoughts of Kara for a while.

I knew Kara would be doing well, but she’d be missing me greatly. I

had promised her I was going to return. A feeling of sadness washed

over me, I missed her so much. If she’d been with me, she would

definitely love Christie. I needed to get out of here soon so I could see

her and tell her everything about Christie. I was sure Christie would

love her too.

Are you okay?I heard Christie ask.

Why?

For a moment, your mood went sour. Was it something I did? I’m sorry if I did something wrong. Was it because I came toward you the moment you and the king left the garden? I’m sorry, I couldn’t help

myself, and I—

It’s none of those things, Christie. You did nothing wrong. It’s nothing….my thoughts just drifted for a moment. You’re fine. Besides, if you hadn’t come, Damien would have just told one of the

when you up guards to walk me back. I’m glad you showed

did.

Her cheeks flushed red. Christie couldn’t handle praise without

turning red. It was a pretty sight seeing her happy. I knew she loved it

when I praised her.

You know, in all my time serving at the castle, I’ve never seen His Highness smile the way he did just now,she said.

My heart beat faster. This felt like another revelation. Was he really

only nice to me?

Tell me more,I said without thinking. I wanted to know more.

We reached the room, and Christie wanted to leave, but I stopped her.

I want to know more about the things that have changed in him.I

was genuinely curious. I shouldn’t be asking, I shouldn’t care to know

but I couldn’t help it. I was surprisingly interested in knowing more

about him.

You’re a good luck charm. You’re like something Lady Elara made out

of magic solely for his happiness. I’ve never seen him so alive around a person. The only time he seemed more lively was whenever he came

back from a war.

Did he go to war often?I asked, settling myself on the bed and patting the space beside me for Christie to sit. She shook her head.

Come sit.”

Sorry, I should leave soon so they don’t notice I’m gone from the

kitchen.

I frowned. As much as I’d like her to stay away from Agatha, I didn’t

want her to get punished.

It’s okay.

To answer your question, I don’t really know. I was always getting punished and locked up and didn’t come out much either. But the few times I saw His Highness, he always kept to himself. Didn’t talk much.
