In an instant, Matthew was standing right in front of her.
He pulled a scrap of fabric from his pocket—a piece of tarp from that shipment, marked with the seal of the Marine Corps' Virtue Hall.
He'd taken it earlier, anticipating it might come in handy.
Her eyes narrowed sharply as she stared at the cloth in his hand.
How did he get here so fast? she thought.
Without a word, Matthew handed her the scrap.
Given the size of that shipment, there was no way nobody had noticed the distinctive Virtue Hall emblem on it.
Her body trembled slightly as she accepted the piece.
"You're…"
Suddenly, the memory of the massive ship hijacking a month ago hit her.
She had investigated that incident carefully at the time.
A major faction's cargo had been seized en route to another destination.
And now, Matthew had just arrived on Blackshore Island and was already digging into that very event.
She took a moment, connecting the dots.
She now had a strong sense of who Matthew really was.
Even if Matthew wasn't directly involved with the faction moving those goods, there was no question he was connected to them somehow.
If the woman in teal hadn't recognized that those shipments came from that faction's ships, she might've already been working out who Matthew really was.
"You want the info? I know it," she said, lifting her flawless face, her red lips opening and closing with a slow, deliberate rhythm.
"But why should I share it with you?
"Or more to the point, what kind of price are you willing to pay?"
Matthew set down a thick stack of Dornia Emeralds—at least a hundred thousand—right on the table.
Luckily, his robe had plenty of pockets; otherwise, there was no way he could carry that much cash around.
"Is this enough?" he asked, sliding the money over to her.
If someone like Morton caught sight of that pile, their eyes would light up like fireworks.
Just a single ten-thousand note from earlier was a treasure to him.
But ten times that? Unthinkable.
They were sharp and deadly, radiating pure killing intent.
Her lips parted once more, voice sharp and intense.
"If you help me kill him, forget about the intel.
"I'll hand over this whole shop.
"Hell, I'll be your servant, your b*tch—whatever you want!"
As she spoke, she even loosened her clothes, her hatred plain and raw.
In over ten years, this was the closest she'd ever come to revenge.
She was willing to give up everything she had.
Most folks, faced with such an offer from a woman that stunning, might've jumped at it without a second thought.
But Matthew's face didn't flicker—not a hint of temptation.
It was like her words didn't affect him at all.
"Let's get down to business."
