Man With Super Medical Skill (Matthew) novel Chapter 3687

As Matthew stepped into Lady Veyra's territory, a guard in a deep purple uniform moved to block his path and asked, "What brings you to the North District? Do you have your travel permit?"

Before Matthew could speak, the mob leader eagerly interrupted, "Sir, this guy's the one who blasted the road at the entrance earlier today. Then he and his crew unfolded a giant inflatable bridge and demanded 1,500 Dornia Emeralds per head. Imagine if their stunt had held up your official duties. We decided to help Lady Veyra by bringing him to her for judgment."

They're not angry about the road. They just want to kiss up to her, Matthew thought.

The officer gave a short nod. "Understood. Hand them over to me. I'll make sure Lady Veyra hears about this. What's your name, and where are you from?"

"Ira Rowland. Gleerimp Street, North District," the mob leader replied quickly.

"Travel permit?" the officer pressed.

Ira handed his over. Matthew produced his as well.

"You're free to go. If what you've given me checks out, come back and claim your reward," the officer told him, scribbling in a small notebook.

In the North District, passing along solid intel or stepping in to guard the district's interests could net you 700 Dornia Emeralds. For most people, that was more than a month's wages. No wonder the Black Market here was livelier than in any of the other three districts. Odhran had been right. This wasn't just a market—it was a rumor factory with a payout window.

The officer escorted Matthew and Ariya deeper into the district. Three blocks later, they rounded a corner, and Matthew's eyes landed on a villa that could only belong to someone in power.

Guards in purple uniforms stood every 6.5 feet along the walls, silent and sharp. Direct opposite the villa stretched a massive training arena, where hundreds of shirtless soldiers drilled and sparred under the sun.

"Wow, what an amazing palace!" Ariya breathed.

Matthew kept his attention on the guards, quietly tracing possible escape routes in his head. Men and women really do notice different things, he thought. Kid, we're here to face accusations, not enjoy the view.

Inside, the officer left them in the main hall. Two neat lines of purple-uniformed soldiers flanked the space, their uniforms sharper and more ornate than those outside.

At the far end, a glittering throne sat on a raised platform. The thing looked like it belonged in a storybook—a queen's chair, all sparkle and shine.

Matthew's mouth twitched. Didn't peg Lady Veyra for the "princess dreams" type.

Her hand stilled. Her eyes narrowed. "I know exactly who it was—Lord Vohran."

...

The North District under Lady Veyra's command had once been part of the East District. She and Lord Vohran shared the same father.

Lady Veyra was the sharper mind, the tougher fighter, yet their father believed women could never match a man's ruthlessness. He feared she would lose the territory to the other districts, so he rigged the leadership trials to guarantee her defeat.

The prize—and the power—fell to Lord Vohran.

Once in control, he made it his mission to break her, laying snares and orchestrating dangers that could easily have killed her.

Driven to the wall with no allies left to call on, Lady Veyra reached a turning point and finally made a choice that would alter the course of her life forever.
