Chapter 165 Medicine and a Lingering Stare
William answered the call with a quick sound, then wen back to coaxing Nina with the syrup.
“Nina, this one’s sweet. Super yummy-want one little sip?”
Nina slapped both hands over her mouth. “No.”

William kept trying. “It really tastes like juice.”
Nina shook her head hard. “No!”
She flat-out refused the medicine.
Worse-she now wanted actual juice because of him.
Lucien, watching from the side, saw the opening and rolled his eyes cleverly.
“Nina, I’ll go get you real juice!” he said.
Nina nodded eagerly. “Okay!”
She kept her hands clamped over her mouth, waiting for the promised drink. William settled her on his lap and checked her little face again.
“Nina, once you take the medicine, you won’t feel bad anymore. Why don’t you want it?”
He still hoped to reason with her.
Nina wasn’t having it—she wasn’t drinking that stuff, period.
Soon Lucien came back carrying two identical cups of “juice.”
One really was juice. The other had medicine poured inside instead.
Lucien stuck the straw from the medicine cup into Ninas mouth.
“Nina, let’s drink together!” he said.
Nina sucked happily, completely unsuspecting.
One sip later, she scrunched her nose-wrong taste.
She pushed the medicine cup away with a chubby hand
“No this!”
She pointed at Lucien’s cup. “Nina want that one!”
Lucien insisted, “They’re exactly the same.”
Nina didn’t care-she wanted his.
When she reached to grab it, Lucien quickly bit down on his own straw and chugged the whole thing.
Nina watched him gulp it down, pouted, but didn’t cry.

She still eyed the medicine cup suspiciously.
Tricking her with juice clearly wasn’t going to work.

Lucien tried a few more ideas, but Nina was too smart-she was a sneaky little mochi, impossible to fool.
Out of tricks, Lucien scratched his face in frustration.
Just as William started panicking, Amelia and Benjamin finally rushed in.
The second Amelia arrived, William let out a huge breath of relief.
The medicine was finally going down.
“Amelia, here-this is Nina’s medicine. I poured it into a cup. She won’t drink it no matter what I do.” William handed everything over.
Nina had been happy to see Mommy-she even reached out for a hug-but the moment she saw the medicine cup, she yanked her arms back.
“Mommy, no! Nina no drink!”
She knew refusing wasn’t enough. She twisted her chubby body and tried to bolt.
Amelia shot Benjamin a quick look.
The next second, Benjamin stepped forward and scooped up the escapee.
Amelia didn’t waste words.
She had Benjamin hold Nina steady, then pinched her cheeks and poured the medicine straight in.
Everyone watched, unblinking, as Amelia force-fed the lose.
Vincent lowered his voice to William. “Nina’s mom is seriously impressive.”
William didn’t answer-he was too busy aching for the poor little thing getting medicine poured down her throat.
Gideon, standing nearby, wasn’t looking at Nina’s upset ace. Instead, his eyes were fixed on Amelia.
The longer he stared, the faster his heart pounded for no reason he could name.
Amelia didn’t notice his gaze. But Benjamin, holding Nima, noticed the strange way Gideon was staring.
His brows furrowed almost imperceptibly,
“No Mommy…”

Medicine finally down, Nina turned into a tiny crying fountain.
She thrashed in Benjamin’s arms, refusing even him now.
William stepped forward to take her, but Lucien beat him to it-he zoomed up in his little electric sports car and honked the horn.

“Nina, come on! I’ll take you for a ride!” he said.
Nina saw the car, leaned forward eagerly, and reached for the seat.
Benjamin set her in the car and let Lucien whisk her away for a bit.

Once the kids were gone, only the adults remained.
Gideon was still staring at Amelia.
He had been staring for a very long time.
He looked straight into her eyes as he apologized.
“You… you’re Nina’s mom? I’m so sorry. Those strawberries were on my table. I had no idea Nina would come over, and I definitely didn’t expect her to grab one so fast. Amelia, I’m sorry.”
Amelia wasn’t thrilled, but she kept it polite.
“It’s all right,” she said softly, then went outside to watch Nina.
Gideon watched her go and, without thinking, took two steps after her.
Amelia felt the presence, stopped, and turned back with a puzzled look.
