Chapter 253 Wasn’t the Same
When William arrived, Daniel saw him and immediately put Nina down, directing her toward her grandfather.
Then Daniel left-no, he ran away-ran fast, actually.
Nina blinked, and Daniel was gone.

With Daniel gone, she toddled over and demanded to be held by William.
Her foot was still a little sore, and she wasn’t in the mood for walking.
William snorted mentally at the sight of Daniel’s fleeing back.
I’m freezing his cards later.
His paternal love for Daniel was temporarily put on hold.
Looking down at Nina, his heart swelled with affection. Nina, did you talk to Auntie Chloe?”
“Yeah, talk many!” Nina, the little chatterbox, could chat with just about anyone.
Back when Benjamin was unconscious, she had carried on a long, one-sided conversation. Now with Chloe, she had even more to say.
It didn’t matter that Chloe couldn’t respond.
Nina just needed a listener.
The two entered the room again. Jasper, sitting on the chair by the doorway, stood up upon seeing William, wanting to say something.
William completely ignored him.
He was busy answering Nina, who was mumbling in his arms about wanting some drink, “What would you like to drink, sweetheart?”
“Grandpa, want coke.” Nina had seen a cola advertisement and now she wanted some.
William hesitated. That’s not very healthy.
“Nina, how about some fresh juice instead?” he asked.
Freshly squeezed juice was more nutritious.
Nina shook her little head stubbornly. “Grandpa, coke.”
Once her stubborn streak kicked in, there was no changing her mind.
Nina clung to William, alternating between “Thirsty” and “I love Grandpa.”
William was utterly defenseless. He finally asked someone to bring a small bottle of cola.
He poured just a small sip’s worth into a cup.

“Nina, you can’t drink too much of this. Your tummy will hurt.” William cautioned, not daring to give her
more.
Nina clutched the cup. Though unsatisfied with the amount, she didn’t protest immediately and wanted to finish it first.
She had experience with this.
Once, when she wanted yogurt from the fridge, Amelia aid it was too cold and only let her have a tiny taste.
Nina had thrown a tantrum, refusing.
Then Amelia took the yogurt away, and she got none at all.
Nina had been taught enough lessons by Amelia to learn a few things.
“Nina, drink slowly,” William said and held his big hand under her chin in case she spilled anything.
Nina was used to a sippy cup and often made a mess when drinking directly.
The little splash of cola went into her mouth.
The next second, Nina scrunched up her face and spat it all out.
The carbonation was too intense; it prickled her mouth
This was her first time with a fizzy drink.
After spitting it out, she complained to William, “Hit mouth!”
William was caught off guard that she didn’t like it.
He wiped the spilled soda off his hand with a tissue, the gently cleaned Nina’s mouth.
He couldn’t help but chuckle, “Nina, who hit your mouth?”
Nina touched her lips, unable to explain.
Even if she couldn’t articulate it, her actions spoke volumes: she threw the cup on the floor and tried to stomp on it.
William held her, stopping her from stomping on it. “Nina, let’s have some different water. Where’s your water bottle?”
Nina never went anywhere without her little water bottl
Daniel had filled it before they left.
Nina pointed to the hospital bed.
William spotted the yellow dinosaur-shaped water bott and grabbed it, then opened it and let her take a few sips.
They stayed in the room, keeping Chloe company.
Nina, ever restless, started wandering around the room, busy with her own mysterious little toddler

William watched her fondly. As he did, he said softly to Chloe beside him, “Chloe, you need to wake up
soon.
“You’ll get to see Nina when you do.
“She really likes you, her Auntie Chloe.
“You know, she’s usually terrified of hospitals.”
William kept talking to Chloe while watching Nina play time passing quietly.
Over at Wilson Villa, the Wilson family felt Nina’s absence, feeling a little disappointed.
“Nina just came back from such a long trip. She must be exhausted.” Freya, who’d never had children of her own, said, “She probably needs a few good days of rest.”
Lily and Amelia, both mothers, shared a knowing smile
“I’d love for Nina to get some rest,” Amelia said, “but she woke up even earlier than I did this morning.
“She only gets tired in short bursts. She bounces back incredibly fast.”
Nina’s energy comes back in a flash.
A few minutes of cuddling with Benjamin or me, and she’s recharged enough to cause chaos all day.
As Amelia chatted with the Wilson family about Nina, the whole family sat together. Even though only Nina was missing, the energy just wasn’t the same.
