Chapter 414 Didn’t Call Him Out
Seeing the passerby’s sympathy, Daniel felt a wave of despair.
Just when the situation seemed impossible to resolve, Lester-who had been watching the whole drama unfold-finally made a move.
Lester bought a cup of hot chocolate.
Since Daniel kept saying she couldn’t have anything cold, Lester simply held the cup out to Nina. “Want some?”
To Nina, that cup looked just like the cappuccino Amelia wouldn’t let her drink before.
The moment she saw the “cappuccino,” Nina’s crying stopped instantly.
“Yeah!” she said, reaching for it. She had cried herself tired.
Lester handed her the cup.
Nina didn’t want him to put the straw in-she wanted to do it herself.
Lester had bought a large hot chocolate. Nina’s hands were too small to hold the cup with one hand.
So, she set it on the floor, crouched down, held it steady with one hand, and gripped the straw with the other, trying to poke it in.
She focused hard on her task.
Daniel, who had been feeling utterly defeated by Nina’s tantrum, saw her determined little effort and was immediately disarmed, a grin spreading across his face.
Nina is just too, too adorable.
Completely unaware she had melted Daniel’s heart, Nina even made little “huff-puff” sounds as she tried to stab the straw through the lid.
It still didn’t work.
She couldn’t get it in.
“Help Nina?” she asked, frustrated, and held the cup back
up to Lester.
Lester smoothly inserted the straw for her.
chocolate.
She took several big gulps.
Seeing her drink so eagerly, Lester raised an eyebrow and asked, teasingly, “Good?”
Nina nodded vigorously. “Good!”
“Still crying?” Lester asked next.
Nina hesitated. She looked at the ice cream, then at her hot chocolate.
While she was still deciding whether to resume crying, Lester performed another little magic trick, producing a milk candy from his pocket.
With the added incentive of candy, Nina made her choice.
She touched her eyes seriously. “Nina no cry.”
With Nina pacified, Lester picked her up and shot a glance at Daniel.
Daniel stared back, speechless.
Jerk. Erik was right about him.
Daniel cursed Lester inwardly, but didn’t dare utter a word out loud.
He wasn’t afraid of Lester, but he was afraid Nina would pick up his bad language.
Biting back his curses, Daniel just rolled his eyes at Lester again.
He rolled his eyes so often he didn’t notice Nina had seen him do it.
She even tried to mimic the expression.
Daniel still didn’t notice it, but Lester did.
A slight smile touched Lester’s lips, but he didn’t point it out to Daniel.
Soon, the trio continued on their way.
Daniel was genuinely on edge now.
As Lester carried Nina forward, Daniel walked right beside them, blocking her view of any tempting shops.

Under Daniel’s close “protection,” the two men successfully delivered Nina to the indoor playground.
The moment they entered, Daniel breathed a sigh of relief.
The playground was just for playing-no forbidden snacks in sight.
Daniel looked from Nina to Lester.
He knew Lester had an ulterior motive for being so attentive.
But he couldn’t just take Nina and leave.
Seeing Lester still here, Daniel decided to get a little creative himself.
It was well-known that Lester had no experience with kids.
Daniel used to think Lester and Benjamin were alike in many ways.
They were both ruthless, both cold, keeping people at a distance.
But since Benjamin had Nina, he’d clearly become softer and more human.
Lester was still the same old Lester.
So, maybe they weren’t so similar after all.
Hatching a little plan, Daniel encouraged Nina to go play with Lester.
This playground was huge. Nina could run wild in here.
Daniel had played with her here several times before. Even a fairly fit adult like him ended up completely exhausted afterward.
Nina was a handful. She got into little scuffles with other kids, needed constant watching on the equipment-supervising her here was no easy task.
“Nina, have fun with Lester. Whatever you want to play, just ask Lester to go with you,” Daniel said, putting on a magnanimous act.
His hidden, mischievous intention, however, didn’t escape Lester’s notice.
Lester knew exactly what Daniel was up to.
But Lester just glanced at him and didn’t call him out.
Nina, oblivious to the adult mind games, just knew it was time to play.
