Chapter 523 Couldn’t Stay Out Any Longer

Nina got her gift, but she didn’t just grab it and run off right away.

She always made sure to give the person who gave her the present a tight hug first.

Daniel pulled Nina into his arms happily, then leaned down and planted a soft kiss on her chubby cheek.

Her round face felt way softer and cuter than jelly.

Daniel could never get enough of pinching and kissing her chubby cheeks.

He loved doing it more than anything–though Nina definitely didn’t care for it one bit.

“Un–coo Daniel, no bite Nina chwwk.” Nina pushed hard against Daniel’s face, puffing out her cheeks in a tiny pout.

Daniel laughed and pulled back right before she threw a full–on tantrum. “Alright, Nina. Say bye–bye to Uncle Tanner.

“Let’s head home and play with your bubble machine.”

Daniel tried distracting Nina with the bubble machine. Nina held the toy tight in her arms, yet she refused to wave goodbye.

Instead, she invited Tanner to come over to her house and play.

Tanner gently turned her down. “I need to head home now. Next time you wanna hang out, just give me a call.”

He’d been looking after Nina nonstop and was exhausted beyond words.

Still, on the ride over, Nina had sat quietly on his lap for a good while before they got out of the

car.

She’d leaned snugly against him, mumbled sweet words to him, and even planted a kiss on his

cheek.

Hearing her soft voice say she loved him, Tanner suddenly didn’t feel half as tired anymore.

He even made plans to hang out with her again another day.

Nina was too busy looking forward to playing with her bubble machine to pester Tanner into staying any longer.

Once the two parted ways, Nina wriggled free from Daniel’s hold.

She held up the bubble machine, giggling as she blew bubbles straight at Daniel.

Nina ran all the way from the front door into the house, blowing bubbles at everyone inside one by one.

Only Benjamin and Amelia were nowhere to be seen.

She tilted her head, holding up the bubble machine, and looked up at William and Daniel with a confused little look. “Daddy, Mommy, where?”

“They are busy with work right now,” William said quickly, stepping forward to hold her back when she tried running outside to look for them. “And don’t go wandering out the door. They’ll be home any minute now.”

He made Nina stay inside and wait for Benjamin and Amelia to come back.

Nina hadn’t seen Benjamin and Amelia all day, and she’d missed them terribly. “Grandpa, call. Call Mommy.”

Nina squirmed in William’s grip, begging him to give Amelia a call.

William agreed at once and reached for his phone.

He hadn’t even dialed the number yet when Benjamin and Amelia walked through the door.

The two had enjoyed a nice dinner alone together. Benjamin had wanted to take Amelia for a walk afterward, but Amelia had missed Nina all day and couldn’t stay out any longer.

She’d decided to head straight back home with him instead.

Nina lit up the second she spotted Amelia walking in.

She trotted over quickly and threw her arms around Amelia’s legs.

“Mommy, bubbwe. Un–coo Dan’el buy bubbwe.” Nina held the bubble machine up high to show her.

Amelia crouched down, pulled Nina into her arms, and pressed a gentle kiss to her forehead. “Uncle Daniel got you a bubble machine? Did you say thank you to him?”

Nina blinked slowly, then turned to glance at Daniel. “Tank you.”

Daniel laughed loudly and told her she didn’t have to be so polite.

The house was filled with warm, lively chatter. Nina alone had all the grown–ups wrapped

She hopped from one person to the next, asking each of them to hold her and play with her, never leaving anyone out.

Amelia didn’t let her play around for too long, though.

It was already getting late, and it was time for Nina to get washed up and ready for bed.

After tucking Nina in and getting her settled for the night, Amelia washed her own hair. Once she finished, Benjamin stood in front of the mirror and helped blow–dry her hair.

The two paid no mind to Nina for a little while.

There was a pile of toys spread across the bed, and Nina amused herself by playing with them alone.

With Benjamin and Amelia not watching her, she’d been perfectly happy playing with her toys at first.

But as she messed around, her eyes landed on Benjamin’s cellphone.

Nina was absolutely obsessed with grown–ups‘ phones and loved getting to play with them any chance she got.

Amelia was always strict about this, though–she almost never let Nina touch a phone.

She thought Nina was far too young for screen time, that it wasn’t good for her at all.

Thanks to Amelia’s rules, no one else in the family dared let Nina use their phones either.

So when she spotted Benjamin’s phone lying on the bed, Nina didn’t hesitate for a second. She scrambled over quickly and grabbed it in her tiny hands.

She glanced back over her shoulder at Benjamin and Amelia first.

Benjamin was still busy drying Amelia’s hair, totally distracted.

Nina wiggled her chubby bottom around, turning her back to them, then stared down at the screen and started tapping away at the phone.

Benjamin never used to lock his phone.

Now he kept a passcode on it.

It wasn’t to keep Amelia out–his passcode was actually Amelia’s birthday, and he never minded her using his phone whenever she wanted.

She hit the answer button right away.

“Hi.” Nina greeted the caller in her soft voice before the person on the other end could say a word.

The woman on the line fell quiet for a moment, clearly caught off guard by the childish tone.

“Who is this?” she asked. “Is this Benjamin’s number?”
