Chapter 530 Troubled by the Whole Scene
Nina grabbed hold of Myrna’s dress with her chubby little hands, tilted her round face up, and looked straight at Myrna. “Ice cweam.”
Myrna fell silent for a moment.
She glanced at Hugh, who had just spoken to her so sharply. Then she looked back down at Nina, whose eyes were sparkling, clearly dying for some ice cream.
The contrast was night and day, and Myrna couldn’t help envying William.
She wanted a granddaughter of her own, just like Nina.
Myrna said, “Sweetie, it’s pretty late now, and the air’s turned chilly. Let’s wait for warmer weather to have ice cream, okay?”
Nina frowned. “No.”
Right after refusing, Nina tugged Myrna’s hand, ready to drag her straight outside. “Go ice cweam.”
Nina knew ice cream was sold outside, and she wanted Myrna to take her to buy some right away.
Myrna smiled softly at Nina’s little tantrum and crouched down patiently.
She said, “Let’s not go out just yet. Come here, let me hold you.”
Nina opened her chubby arms obediently and let Myrna pick her up.
Once she was settled in Myrna’s hold, she leaned in and planted a soft kiss on her cheek.
Nina’s kiss was warm and sweet, and Myrna’s heart melted right away.
In that moment, her longing for a granddaughter grew stronger than ever.
She asked, “Hugh, when are you and Stella gonna have a baby of your own?
“Just look how adorable Nina is. You two should have one, too-we could raise her right here at home, and the whole house would feel so much livelier.”
Myrna hoped Hugh and Stella would have a sweet little girl just like Nina.
Amelia held back what she wanted to say.
Nina only looked quiet, soft, and sweet on the surface-always quick with kind words and good at cooing
over grown-ups.
Only her family and those who’d taken care of her knew the truth.
This little girl was nothing short of a tiny troublemaker.
Lorna said, “Hugh, if you two want to try for a baby, I can recommend a good doctor for you and Stella to see-”

“No need.” Hugh’s frown deepened instantly.
He cut Lorna off before she could finish her sentence.
Hugh couldn’t let Stella overhear this kind of talk.
Stella hated going to the doctor more than anything, and she’d be upset if she heard Lorna’s suggestion.
Myrna couldn’t stand Hugh’s cold, rude attitude toward Lorna any longer.
She frowned. “What’s gotten into you? Lorna’s never done a thing to hurt you. Why do you treat her like
this?
“You’re still her older brother, after all. You ought to be nicer to her.
“Lorna already told me she quit her agent.
“She had a little falling-out with Stella before, and she came here with me today just to clear things up with you.”
Myrna kept singing Lorna’s praises nonstop, and Hugh was growing utterly annoyed by it.
Still, she was his mother, and he couldn’t bring himself to speak too harshly.
He settled for saying what he thought was mild enough. “Alright, Mom, stay out of our generation’s
business. Don’t meddle in this anymore. Lorna doesn’t need to clear anything up with me. I’ll be grateful if she just stays out of my and Stella’s lives.
“I’ll never understand this. The entertainment industry’s big enough to avoid each other if you really want

“Why do you keep forcing yourself into Stella’s path?
“Every time you cross paths with Stella, you end up looking like you’re the one wronged.
“It always made it seem like Stella was bullying you on purpose.
“That kind of act just rubs people the wrong way.
“And don’t think pulling Mom and Dad into this will change anything. They may like you and treat you well, but I don’t. I never will.
“Do you understand that?
“Mom, do you get it, too?”
After Hugh finished what he thought was a calm, reasonable speech, both Myrna and Lorna wore stunned, livid expressions.
Myrna was so angry that she wanted to scold and even smack Hugh.
He had a sharp tongue and zero tact when he spoke.

Hugh made his dismissal blunt and straightforward.
He pointed straight toward the door and said plainly to Lorna, “Leave. You’re not welcome here.
Hugh hadn’t always felt such strong dislike toward Lorna.
It was all the constant clashes between Lorna and Stella lately that changed everything.
He never bothered sorting out who was right or wrong in their fights.
All he knew was that every fight put Stella in a terrible mood.
And when Stella was upset, he was the one who suffered-calming her down was never easy.
Hugh stood firm, pointing to the door and ordering Lorna to leave. Lorna stood frozen in place, embarrassed and awkward.
Just as she hesitated there, Nina chimed in, “Go. Leave. Un-coo howse. No come.”
Nina’s soft voice joined in sending Lorna away.
Pushed into a corner by everyone’s cold attitude, Lorna bit her lower lip and spoke up gently. “Myrna, I’d better take my leave first. Don’t let Hugh and you fall out because of me. I don’t want to be the cause of any trouble between you two.”
With those thoughtful words, Lorna turned and walked out the door.
Watching her leave, Myrna couldn’t help feeling a twinge of guilt.
She said, “Hugh, look at what you’ve done. You really hurt Lorna’s feelings.”
Myrna looked upset and troubled by the whole scene.
Nina paid no mind to the adults’ heavy moods. The second Lorna left, her mind went right back to ice
cream.
Amelia reacted fast, reaching out to gently pinch Nina’s mouth shut. “Nina, keep that little mouth closed.”
She held Nina’s mouth softly, stopping her from throwing another little tantrum over ice cream.
