**Freedom 475**
**Chapter 475**
“Mrs. Brown is calling.”
The words echoed in the room, and this time, Franklin actually registered them. He murmured a noncommittal “Mm,” his attention momentarily captured.
His gaze flickered to the phone resting on the desk, its screen illuminating the dim office with the fading light of the afternoon. But before he could reach for it, the call abruptly ended, leaving a lingering silence.
With a sigh, he picked up the phone, his voice barely above a whisper as he said, “You can go now.”
“Yes, sir,” Chad replied, a hint of uncertainty in his tone.
With that, Chad exited the office, leaving Franklin alone with the weight of impending decisions.
In the wake of their collaborative breakthrough, Wilson Corp wasted no time in broadcasting the news. The momentum was palpable, driven by the desire to showcase their innovation both nationally and internationally. By that very afternoon, the announcement was making waves, and a press conference was hastily arranged.
When Franklin received the update about the event, he remained composed, his voice steady as he instructed, “Adjust my schedule.”
Chad paused, a flicker of concern crossing his features. “You’ll be attending the press conference?”
“Mm,” Franklin affirmed, his response succinct.
“This…” Chad hesitated, the weight of the situation pressing on him.
Franklin had a significant meeting booked for that same morning. It was with Mr. Brown, who had traveled from another state specifically for this encounter. Surely, Franklin hadn’t overlooked that detail.
Chad’s brow furrowed as he carefully reminded him, “But that day, you’re supposed to meet Mr. Brown. He’s flying in just for this. If we suddenly change plans, wouldn’t that—”
Franklin’s silence was telling. He raised his eyes to Chad, his expression calm yet inscrutable.
In that moment, Chad understood. Franklin was acutely aware of the meeting’s significance, and yet he had made his choice.
“…Understood,” Chad finally conceded. “I’ll reach out to Mr. Brown’s team and rearrange the appointment.”
The announcement of the collaboration was undeniably important, but Wilson Corp had a cadre of senior staff capable of managing the event without Franklin’s presence.
Still, Chad felt compelled to add, “The PR department likely isn’t expecting you to show up either. I’ll inform them to prepare your seating arrangement.”
“No need for anything elaborate,” Franklin interjected, his tone unwavering. “I won’t go on stage. Just have them save me a seat in the audience.”
“In the audience?” Chad blinked, taken aback.
If Franklin wasn’t going to speak, what was the point of attending at all?
For both Wilson Corp and Cole, this collaboration marked a pivotal milestone, and Maggie, as the project lead, was among the essential attendees.
As the event commenced, she made her way onto the stage alongside Claremont and other executives, settling into the seat designated for her.
As she adjusted her microphone, her gaze inadvertently swept across the crowd, and there he was—Franklin.
He wasn’t attempting to blend in; he was seated prominently beneath her, just a few rows from the front, his presence unmistakable.
Even if she hadn’t been searching for him, she couldn’t have missed him.
Sensing her glance, Franklin’s eyes met hers, and a faint, almost imperceptible smile played at the corners of his lips.
Maggie’s heart skipped a beat; her movements faltered for a fraction of a second before she quickly turned her head away, feigning indifference.
Claremont, who had also noticed Franklin, offered a courteous nod of acknowledgment before settling beside her.
“I heard Mr. Wilson was quite pleased with our final results,” he remarked in a low voice. “It seems he made time to attend in person.”
Maggie merely nodded, her expression neutral, the weight of her silence speaking volumes.
She had nothing to say.
