Chapter 8
The day of the wedding, the sky over Provence was a perfect, cloudless blue. Paris’s fashion elite had gathered here–designers, celebrities, power players.
I wore a breathtaking gown crafted by one of the world’s top designers over the course of a month. The dress was encrusted with diamonds that caught the sunlight, sparkling brilliantly, drawing envious stares from everyone.
I was lost in happiness.
Then Kieran showed up.
He looked nothing like the confident business mogul he once was.
His hair was a mess. Eyes sunken. The expensive suit he used to wear with pride was now wrinkled, stained with god–knows–what.
He stormed into the venue and locked eyes on me.
Those eyes that used to hold nothing but impatience and arrogance were now filled with crazed desperation and pleading.
“Evelyn… Evelyn!”
He stumbled forward, voice shredded raw.
“I finally found you! I was wrong–I know I was wrong–please, come back with me…”
Noah stepped in front of me instantly.
His tall frame felt like a mountain–solid, immovable.
His icy gaze cut toward Kieran, eyes sharp with lethal intent.
Before Noah even gave the order, security rushed in, trying to drag the intruder out.
But Kieran fought back violently, crawling toward me without a shred of dignity left.
‘Let me go!”
Evelyn! Look at me! Look at this!”
With trembling hands, he pulled a velvet box from his pocket.
nside–the ring he’d thrown into the furnace with his own hands.
Tears and sweat streamed down his face. He looked pathetic. Broken.
Look–I got it back. I got it back…”
I know I’m a bastard. I was blind! That bitch Tina fooled me–I wronged you, I hurt you…”

“But I sent her to prison. She’ll never bother you again.”
“I know I screwed up, Evelyn. Hit me, yell at me, kill me if you want–just don’t punish me like this. Don’t marry someone else!”
Gasps rippled through the crowd.
D
Then he dropped to his knees. Hard.
“Seven years. All those memories–can you really just throw them away that easily?”
“We started in that cramped apartment. We struggled together, pulled all–nighters together, built Virex from nothing…”
“Evelyn, can you really stand to watch Virex disappear?”
He sobbed.
The man who used to act untouchable now groveled like a dog begging for scraps.
Then–a quiet laugh.
[ looked up.
Noah.
He stared down at Kieran with cold amusement and asked mockingly:
‘Oh? And who told you Virex was going to disappear?”
Kieran froze. So did everyone else.
Noah turned to me, took my hand gently, and spoke softly.
I told you–Virex is your life’s work. I wasn’t going to let it vanish.”
After you left, Kieran lost it. Stopped managing the company. Started lashing out at employees and board members over nothing. The board got sick of it. They voted unanimously to sell.”
So I had my team acquire Virex in your name. The contract should arrive in the next few days.”
as going to surprise you, Evelyn. Guess I had to say it early.”
stared at him, overwhelmed, and threw my arms around him, kissing him deeply.
No. Whenever you told me–it would’ve been a surprise.”
ehind us, Kieran looked like the world had just caved in.
le collapsed onto the ground.
No–no!”
uddenly he started screaming like a madman.
Chapter 8
You can’t! You can’t sell Virex! Without it, you’ll never come back to me…”
I just need one more chance–just one…”
But no matter how much he wailed, I felt nothing but calm.
looked down at him like he was a stranger.
Kieran, keep your late–blooming devotion to yourself. With or without Virex, I’m never coming back to you.”
Because I don’t love you anymore.”
My soft words stabbed straight into his heart. He looked up sharply, the last flicker of hope dying in his eyes.
