Chapter 12
After taking over the company, I snatched several major contracts away from Alexander.
Vance Industries was never comparable to Sullivan Industries to begin with.
Plus, after his “cuckold” reputation spread throughout school, he didn’t even finish college before going home–he had no real substance
Every time he went to question business partners and try to win them back, he failed.
“Chloe, are you taking revenge on me?”
“It’s been over eight years–aren’t you over it yet? Can we please talk?”
While he was desperately trying to arrange a meeting with me.
I personally submitted evidence of his tax evasion and money laundering since he took over Vance Industries these past few years.
So Alexander was arrested at the airport.
I stood not far away, quietly watching him being led away in handcuffs.
Alexander looked pained and seemed to want to say something. I stepped closer and heard his anguished question: “Why?”
I couldn’t help but laugh, “You’re asking me why?”
“When you used to insult me, why didn’t you ask why then?”
“When you mocked me for being deaf, why didn’t you ask why then?”
“Besides, I just reported you. If you were innocent, how could you have been arrested?”
Getting evidence of his crimes wasn’t difficult.
Over the years I’d sponsored many talented individuals from impoverished mountain villages and helped numerous college students.
One of those girls happened to work at Vance Industries and disclosed this information to me. That’s all.
I was never some pushover to be bullied.
After that debate competition, I’d already seen Alexander’s true nature.
He was hypocritical, always staying aloof when things didn’t concern him, and extremely self–serving.
But I hadn’t grown up yet–my wings hadn’t fully developed.
So
I endured, until that birthday party after high school graduation.
I knew my chance had come.
I could righteously call off the engagement and not attend the same university as him.
I could study abroad, cutting all contact with him from then on, waiting for the opportunity to pull him down from his pedestal.

Chapter 12
As it turned out. I succeeded.
And Alexander was out of the game.
After hearing all this. Alexander couldn’t say a single word.
With his hands cuffed, he followed the police away in a daze, his steps unusually unsteady.
He was ultimately sentenced to seven years in prison.
1 left the Vance parents some dignity–1 only absorbed their business sectors without targeting Vance Industries directly.
Consider it my final act of courtesy.
At thirty–two, I was already on the Forbes rich list.
Alexander was also released early for good behavior.
He said he wanted to see me one more time.
I agreed.
In the coffee shop downstairs from my company, he looked haggard and hesitantly asked: “If there’s a next life, and I don’t say those things, could we… still have a chance to be together?”
I looked down and took a sip of my latte.
.
Then told him expressionlessly: “Human flaws are in our bones–they’ll be exposed sooner or later. You asking these questions is completely meaningless.”
Alexander gave a bitter laugh, roughly rubbed his face, and left.
Soon after, Vance Industries filed for bankruptcy.
On the way back to their hometown with his parents, Alexander was in a car accident.
Perhaps it was karma.
He suffered a head injury in the crash and became deaf.
His left leg could no longer walk normally either–he became half–disabled.
His parents were fine, just some concussion that would heal with rest.
According to people who were at the hospital that day: “Alexander was lying in the hospital bed, crying and laughing, babbling repeatedly: “This is retribution.“”
He’d probably lost his mind somewhat.
